AIBU to think that it's ok to post threads for fun, even if occasionally they might not be 100% truthful?

You know, just to get people chatting about stuff.

I should lie exaggerate a little to make it more interesting, don't you think?

Maryz Wed 27-Mar-13 15:32:54

Because if I posted a real life thread about my day, you would all die of boredom.

Because my life is very boring atm.

Maryz Wed 27-Mar-13 15:33:19

And if no-one is going to post on my thread, it doesn't really matter whether it is truthful or made-up jokey.

TantrumsAndBalloons Wed 27-Mar-13 15:34:34

No chatting allowed.

Earnest, Judgy advice only here I am afraid.

Crack a smile and you are out.

Joyful aint it?

I'm baffled why anyone would report things that are clearly posted as a laugh. But that's because I am not a joyless arse.

hazeyjane Wed 27-Mar-13 15:35:51

You're not sat next to someone on a bus, 'loud parenting' a disabled dog in a pushchair, wearing a nappy, are you?

<narrows eyes>

ginslinger Wed 27-Mar-13 15:36:14

I am right behind you Maryz.

I am sick to death of the joylessness here, the way people get jumped on when they ask reasonable questions and the lack of fucking fun.

we need a serious debate about this

joke threads are NOT trolling

when did the rules ban jokes?

EggsitPursuedByAChocolateBunny Wed 27-Mar-13 15:38:33

How can you be a troll when using your usual name? confused

BecauseImWorthIt Wed 27-Mar-13 15:39:09

I have to confess to be being baffled by this. One of the great joys of MN is (was?) the level of humour and general silliness. And posters who have the intelligence to spot a joke thread. Why would someone report something so clearly a joke as the spoon thread?

ginslinger Wed 27-Mar-13 15:40:48

One of the best early ones was someone posting that a poor person had touched their child. It was hilarious.

And I'm sure there was one about needing to phone the gardener to get a leaf out of the swimming pool which was also wonderful.

LadyBeagleEyes Wed 27-Mar-13 15:40:53

I dunno, spoons can be a very sensitive subject for some people.
Triggering for many, you know.
I thought your thread was very ill thought out Hully.wink

Hullygully Wed 27-Mar-13 15:41:03

and no name change so clearly a lark

Hullygully Wed 27-Mar-13 15:41:29

snort at lbe

ginslinger Wed 27-Mar-13 15:42:25

There would be no Classics if it was all about serious, joyless stuff.

I have never moaned once about threads that are as dull as fuck

ChippingInIsEggceptional Wed 27-Mar-13 15:42:31

People are bloody stupid - that's why sad

Those threads don't float my boat - it's just not my sense of humour BUT I totally accept that others have a lot of fun on them and good on you all I say! It was as clear as plate glass it was a joke, how fucking stupid do you have to be not to see that??

What new recruit told you off Hully?

EggsitPursuedByAChocolateBunny Wed 27-Mar-13 15:57:01

And what exactly was there to report? But I do speak as someone who has never reported anything.

Live and let live.

FarleyD Wed 27-Mar-13 16:15:23

Huh? Spoon thread was reported? Why? I was enjoying myself on that. I bet it was that Roger that turned us in.

FarleyD Wed 27-Mar-13 16:16:59

Oops, sorry Roger, I see spoon thread is still there.

YouTheCat Wed 27-Mar-13 16:17:53

Who the hell reported the spoon thread?

Maryz Wed 27-Mar-13 16:18:19

Hang on you lot, you are taking this a bit seriously aren't you?

It was a joke ffs (do I need to type "lighthearted" in the title?).

Of course it isn't ok. I am basically ripping apart the space-time continuum, I am lying on the interweb, I'm making things up for fun. I should be shot.

CremeEggThief Wed 27-Mar-13 16:18:41

confused at why anyone would report the spoons thread. Only thing that made me smile yesterday.

Maryz Wed 27-Mar-13 16:19:29

And it has really come to a sad state of affairs if the op has to tell herself she is being unreasonable on an AIBU thread, ffs.

I am cross.

In fact, AIBU to be cross?

Maryz Wed 27-Mar-13 16:20:52

LBE, that's what I said. I said Hully shouldn't of dun it because some people have neighbours who steal their spoons/cats/children and they might be sensitive.

It is unfair to people to make light of their very serious problems (which may or may not be true)

<inserts disclaimers all over the place>

Maryz Wed 27-Mar-13 16:23:39

And AND AND <froths> this thread made it into Classics.

And she is lying. She didn't kill her cats. They were all cattist and doggist and animalist on that thread, I told them off for it, but they took no notice.

I should have reported them. They would have been tutted at if I had.

Instead it ends up in Classics. Which is wrong.

Because it wasn't all troo fact <froths berserkly>

ImTooHecsyForYourParty Wed 27-Mar-13 16:23:45

I miss the joke threads. They were just so much fun.

I would love to see the return of the silly thread.

But, I understand that they can't really, because of the number of arseholes around, who start the shitty threads.

Because of them, we've lost something that was a real laugh.

I think we should find them and kill them.
