AIBU?

To find my DD's (bad) rendition of Annie's Song in the flute enough to move me to tears?

In my defence (a) I must be premenstrual to find John Denver moving and ( b) it's the first time I've heard something I sort of recognise ...

I loved that song until I found out he was a wife beater.

Noooo! MrsTP. Don't say that. DD1 was v impressed that I asked her "was that Annie's Song?" And I played her the original on Napster. And she remarked how lovely it was that JD wrote this song for his wife. What do I tell her tomorrow? The Milky Bar Kid was a bastard?

In fairness, I don't think he was a wifebeater. He just chased her around with an axe.

Oh. Then that's ok. She was clearly faster than him. He was just an ineffective wife beater Sad

Dd did comment on the line "come love me again" and asked had they had a row. It all makes so much more sense now...

And, tried to strangle her. I don't know. I still love racist, sexist, possibly having sex with minors Elvis. It's a good conversation point about how people can be good and bad. And, how some men are really 'passionate' but be careful not to mistake obsession with passion. Depending how old she is, obvs.

Shock - why did I not know this about JD??

I'm afraid to say Annie's Song was the very first record I ever bought.

... To be fair, I was only 12 or something.

Youthecat. That made me laugh. It's so bad doesn't sound like a flute. More like a recorder. Badly played. But 5 million plus on you tube - respect.

My DD is 9 and has yet to reach grade1. So I am used to much lovelier standards of wind instruments in my house. Ahem.
