AIBU?

to think dishwasher fluid is a racket

There's me, always filling up the compartment with fluid, and running the machine on a 90 minute cycle. Ds (ten months) climbs up the dishwasher this afternoon, knocks it shut and sets a 30 minute cycle running, obviously with no fluid in at all.

Afterwards, pots and pans are immaculate.

I'm never buying dishwasher fluid again.

You don't need it with the combined tablets its in there alreadySmile salt is good in hard water areas though

It's an old machine. Separate compartments for fluid, rinse aid, and salt. Can't use the all-in-one tablets in it. But clearly it doesn't need anything!

Can't you put an all in one tablet in the cutlery tray? Our old machine stopped opening the wee door thingy and that's what we had to do. And it worked fine.

just baance the tablet on the top layer - ignore the little compartments . . .

I only ever use a 29 min cycle on mine, it does the job every time. And I agree, stick a tablet in the bottom tray somewhere, I did this when the door kept getting stuck.

I have a 20 year old dishwasher that only has 3 programmes and also the old style dispenser, though the catch on it had broken so I just chuck the all-in-one tablet in at the beginning.

I was waiting until it did its proper fill but was told by a Hotpoint engineer to put it in at the beginning as it wouldn't disperse until the water had heated

my favourite tip is to cut the tablet in half. Saves a fortune and works. I did a not very scientific test. Smile

I always use the 30min cycle, but I do find that it washes better with salt/rinse aid as well as the tablet. It's perfectly decent without the extra salt/rinse aid but the glasses seem to last longer when I use the extras.

I put a tablespoon of soda crystals loose in the bottom of the dishwasher. Works brilliantly and stops the ridiculously hard water in our area closing my glasses and plastics.

I only just discovered this by the way. For years have been forking out huge amounts for dishwasher tabs. I shall be a slave to Finish no longer.

I too have a really old dishwasher with the separate compartments and just chuck an all-in-one tab in at the back of the dishwasher on the floor just before I turn it on.Works perfectlySmile.
