Advanced search wonder if this is the new sticks-in-vases/pebbly shit craze?

I needed to do some deliveries this afternoon, and as the weather was quite nice, I decided to walk rather than take the car. As a result, I was able to take in my surroundings a little more carefully than usual.

Over the course of my approx. three mile walk, I swear I must have seen tens and tens of houses with hearts hanging up in windows, on doors and on gates. All made out of painted punched metal or wicker. They all seemed to be huge, maybe 30cm in diameter. Some of them were quite nice I suppose, but I couldn't help but wonder when I missed that particular memo.

Has anyone else noticed this phenomenon, or is it just my very middle class suburb of a fairly dull town?

eskino weasels are the new owl cushions.

And about one step away from birds' nests on cake stands.

I have a big light up heart-shaped wreath on the living room wall. I got it from Ikea at Christmas about 10 years ago and kept it up because I like it.

Jesus - have just sped out to the garage gates and removed the wicker heart... Thought the couple two doors down with one on their front door were suddenly very over friendly as we waved in the mornings before work - in the nick of time I reckon... In the nick of time.
I will replace it with the voodoo doll I have that says ex-husband and comes complete with pins - currently sat in his chest, eyes and bollocks! Yeah....

Bird's nests on cake stands? Are you sure that's not just people like me who are really crap at cake decorating?

MalkieFraser Mon 18-Mar-13 20:02:40

What's wrong with big ceramic letters? I have 'SHAG' on my bedroom windowsill and 'SHITE' in my downstairs toilet.

SomethingOnce Mon 18-Mar-13 20:04:55

I saw the nests on a site somebody linked to from here. Hipster-tastic!

I need 'WASH' and 'BRUSH' in my bathroom for my 13 yo DS.

Love it!

DangerousBeanz Mon 18-Mar-13 20:38:48

Never mind the wicker hearts, I've got a feckin massive clump of pampas grass in my front garden... And so have next door... and its too dark now to go out with a spade to dig it up...Shite! Why did no one tell me this?

HazeltheMcWitch Mon 18-Mar-13 20:59:03

openerofjars I searched that site for taxidermy weasels with cowboy hats on. I wanted to see eskino's gaff.

But she's probably even too avant garde for there. She thinks that site is sooooo February 2013 sad.

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance Mon 18-Mar-13 21:02:57

Dangerous don't go near that pampas grass without a donkey jacket, welding mask and gauntlets - that feckin stuff's like razor wire.
Maybe that's why it's 'kinky'?
Aaargh where's the brain bleach!

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance Mon 18-Mar-13 21:05:27

Maybe Openerofjars lives in that hose on the property porn thread that had a big stuffed upright wolf in a suit standing in a window - just casually, like.
It has been on the market for a while....

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance Mon 18-Mar-13 21:06:07

house - no one lives in a hose.

HazeltheMcWitch Mon 18-Mar-13 21:07:11

I was wondering if you thought opener was a snake. Or Peter Crouch.

mum47 Mon 18-Mar-13 21:14:47

I have hearts everywhere in my house, wicker, metal, fabric, you name it. I also have big letters and wordy signs everywhere. My latest is one that says "Whatever" which I have put at the top of the stairs between my boys's bedroom - I just point at it as and when required. I also have lots of distressed painted furniture and my kitchen is a homage to the 50's. I bloody love my house, as does my poor emasculated DH

Bartlebee Mon 18-Mar-13 21:18:07

I agree.

I visit houses for my job. Hearts are everywhere.

Next trend I have observed is knitted stag heads - I have seen about 30 lately.

Jbck Mon 18-Mar-13 21:27:34

Wicker hearts are so A/W2011 round here. I have none but refuse to give up my twigs n lights.
Might look into some taxidermy though grin

I've just realised we have a Christmas themed wicker heart handily hid behind the Christmas tree and a curtain on a window handle that is still there! I didn't even like it at Christmas but it was a gift blush

In full display of all the neighbours too!

Bartlebee Mon 18-Mar-13 21:42:58

You wouldn't believe how many people have these wall lights and the matching ceiling light.

Movingtimes Mon 18-Mar-13 21:49:07

Gosh, they're not cheap are they?

DeepRedBetty Mon 18-Mar-13 21:54:52

Don't say I've got to throw away my Bits of Wood in Smelly Stuff! I've only just discovered them. Got to cover the whiff of dps feet etc with something, and I react badly to the propellant in all those Airwick/Glade type squirty air fresheners (and in most spray deodorants too, so it's roll-on or stick only in this house). Smelly candles have to be supervised, so do evaporators - and then someone gave me one of these things and it was wonderful.

The only wicker thing I've got is the star for the top of the Christmas tree, and I've already taken down the bunting we had for a couple of years as I was bored of it.

And DP refused to let me have random words in big letters right from the start, so never guilty of that one.

So please may I be excused?

JollyYellowGiant Mon 18-Mar-13 22:04:40

My house is full of pebbly shit. Every time we go for a walk DS finds a stone and takes it home. They are bloody everywhere.

We also have about 25 sunflowers growing in little pots on our living room table.

No hearts, or sticks or anything bought though.

openerofjars Mon 18-Mar-13 22:05:40

Eh? confused. Peter Crouch? Snakes? Have you lot been at the metal polish again?

My wolf effigy is in the attic, not at the window, anyway.
