Am I being a Petty Fucker? Checkout etiquette.

It's been a long day, so I'm prepared to be told I am being unreasonable.

At Tesco, I started putting my stuff on the conveyor belt. I had lots of stuff. Woman comes up behind me and plonks her basket down, slams one of those dividers down in the middle of the belt and put 8 items down, leaving me to pile up my stuff in the section she'd left me.

AIBU to have thought she should've waited for me to finish unloading my shopping before she put her stuff on? It's not like she was going to be able to get through until I'd finished anyway. The man was already tilling up my stuff.

I'm a Petty Fucker, aren't I?

I love Olivia.

Of course she was rude! This has never happened to me (hoping it does, I need to go and do a shop tomorrow!) smile

I worked as a checkout operater and i would have told her to wait you were not finished.Same way i told another woman to move back and let someone put their in in.She called over my manager and she agreed with me.

"10 items or FEWER!"

I was merely quoting the grammatically incorrect sign above the checkout <sticks superior nasal orifice in the air and sniffs>

You're right, though blush

I had this last week - woman huffed and puffed when I pointed out I hadn't finished unpacking, then she moved forward as I put my last bag into the trolley so when I turned round to put my pin in she was standing by the chip and pin machine.

I just stood there (all the time in the world) until she queried why her shopping wasn't being put through and it was pointed out that I still hadn't paid. She tutted and stood back. I just smiled sweetly and asked to her move to the other side of the till as I would rather she didn't see my pin number. I then waited until she moved eventually grin

I shop in the wrong sort of shops. This has NEVER happened to me and I feel a bit robbed.

But can I just say that while Hecate might be the PA in Supermarkets Queen, I am the Queen of Packing at Aldi. They chuck the stuff at me with their ruthless Germanic efficiency and I keep up with them. If I can get to the point where I'm drumming my fingers waiting for them to chuck the chocolate at me then I will die a happy woman.

YANBU, someone did this to me a few weeks ago in Aldi - I just picked up his stuff and moved it. He then threw it all back in his trolley and huffed and puffed and went to another checkout. I was 39+4 and in no mood to be trifled with.

Hissy Wed 06-Mar-13 20:59:45

I glare if the person behind me draws level with the check out if I'm packing! I'm mardy and proud.

Hecate IS GOD of PA though!

Yfronts Wed 06-Mar-13 18:46:36

maybe you could have moved the divider to create more space for yourself?

Sparklingbrook Wed 06-Mar-13 18:46:11

Oh sorry sirzy I do know what you mean now. How does that work with a conveyor? confused Does all your shopping disappear to the far end when you have scanned it. grin Who is packing?

YY Tesco are doing Scan and Shop. V exciting.

Sirzy Wed 06-Mar-13 18:42:46

Sorry I misunderstood I didn't think anywhere did that scan and shop anymore

SquinkiesRule Wed 06-Mar-13 18:36:13

I've had someone come and dump their stuff behind mine when the belt is stopped and I still have a ton to unload. I just turned and said "excuse me but I'm not done you, you haven't left enough room" They were very apologetic, and grabbed their stuff and ran off to another till. I thought it was weird and rude, but maybe they just didn't look and see my food to feed the hoards.

Sparklingbrook Wed 06-Mar-13 18:31:49

What's the conveyor for? Shop and scan you scan as you go round. confused

Sirzy Wed 06-Mar-13 18:28:57

Sparkling - our local supermarket now has self scan complete with conveyer!

TorianaTollywobbles Wed 06-Mar-13 18:18:43

I did that once. Woman in front of me had a go at me. At the time I didn't think I had done anything that bad, so I started a thread about it on here.

Got my arse kicked and learned my lesson. I have never done it again grin

Sugarice Wed 06-Mar-13 18:11:55

Alison unidentified moaner in AIBU area! grin

Sparklingbrook Wed 06-Mar-13 18:10:17

Scan and shop is the way to go. No conveyor and no mixing with the riff raff at the checkouts. wink

wintertimeisfun Wed 06-Mar-13 18:09:26

yanbu, that would have pissed me right off too smile

OliviaMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 06-Mar-13 18:08:34

Peace love and 6 items or fewer, people

HeadfirstForHalos Wed 06-Mar-13 17:51:08

Alison, how do you have the time and the energy to post to ask people how they have time or energy to let such trivial shit bother them - why not worry about something worthwhile?

lottieandmia Wed 06-Mar-13 17:50:36

YANBU - everyone knows that you wait for the person before you has finished unloading before you start, not only is it good manners but it's also plainly common sense.

She's obviously an ignorant twat.

LittleEdie Wed 06-Mar-13 17:47:55

Hmm. I like to daydream. I could well imagine myself being the 'early loader' in this scenario. Have a heart, she was probably being thoughtless rather than U!

Sparklingbrook Wed 06-Mar-13 17:47:48

That is really rude. So is putting your basket on the left hand side of the serve yourself till while i am still getting my receipt, putting my card away and picking up my bags. angry

Fillyjonk75 Wed 06-Mar-13 17:38:23

Yes, I hate it when people crowd you near the pin machine. Might have to just take a step back and "Ow!"

"Oh sorry, I didn't realise you were so close!"
