AIBU?

to think newborn babies are not gorgeous?

So a friend of mine just had a baby and she's posted photos on Facebook of when her DD was born - like literally as soon as she was born.

I looked at the comments and there was one saying - she is absolutely gorgeous.

She is screaming, covered in blood and goo, red and blue and with a scrunched up face.

Definitely not "gorgeous"

No newborns are.

Disclaimer - I genuinely mean this in a light-hearted way and do not think my friend has an ugly baby and I'm sure she will grow up to be an absolute stunner Smile

I always seem to think newborn babies look a little bit like puppies - fragile, crying, wrinkled puppies. Eck. I'm having one shortly so here's hoping I come over all 'oh how beautiful is my baby' rather than openly saying 'oh look, I gave birth to a puppy'...

To be fair, my Mum always said 'there is only beautiful baby in the world and every Mother has it'.

Once the goo has been wiped off, YAstill BU though i.m.h.o.

Mine was absolutely gorgeous.am bound to think that.

But my baby didn't come out covered in gunk, with a squashed head, puffy eyes, blotchy skin. Which most newborns do although I would still have thought he was beautiful if he had.

I think newborns look bit like ET. Mine of course were beautiful!

Both of mine were beautiful at the time! It's only looking back at photos I notice the blood, vernix, ridged skull, mottled skin etc. You can still see how bewitched I am though! YABU.

Yabu to say that about a friends baby.

Say it about your own!

They are lovely and squidgey and snuffly and make the cutest snuffly sounds. They're soft and warm and smell delish.

When I was pregnant with DD1 I saw a really ugly baby, and rang DP in a panic saying "what if I have a really ugly baby? Will I bond with it?" to which DP replied "You just have to realise all babies are ugly, then you'll be fine."
Ah ever the romantic! (But he still thought she was gorgeous when she came out.)

Ds1 looked like a grumpy red frog, Ds2 (CS) was covered in white goo, hairy and fat, but I could see their inner beauty Grin

I think most tiny babies look like aliens/old men. I didn't think mine were gorgeous at the time and looking back they did indeed look pretty strange (even though they were both c-sections, dd looked very podgy and ds looked a bit like a frog), although obviously I loved them.

But I don't really like babies, so I don't have that automatic 'isn't she gorgeous' type reaction.

YABU- they are all gorgeous - they always seem a real miracle.

they're beautiful in their character and innocence however ugly they might be. saying that ds3 was pretty nice looking, once he'd been around for an hour or two. Not beautiful by any means but you know, (as an older neighbour of mine put it - a man) 'rather a neat looking one' Grin

I saw a birth on youtube yesterday and the baby's head was ENORMOUS - like stretched out backwards? Is this somethingt o do with ventouse?

To their mum they are totally gorgeous, so don't blame your friend, she is in new mum heaven Smile. the truth is new babies usually take a few days/weeks to look gorgeous to anyone else...with a few rare exceptions (mostly CS babies).

Yabu, my DD was beautiful - cs baby though. Hospital staff made a beeline for my cubicle to coo over her Grin.

Honestly though, I do think all newborn babies are lovely. They look so soft, innocent, perfect and new.

DS was a bit swollen. Nurses were commenting on how unusually well shaped his head was. I didn't agree at all. I thought it looked like someone had sucked his head up Blush

A few days later he was stunning though.
