To wonder why these people who have been convicted in the past for pick pocketing are allowed to remain in the UK? This must be coating our policing service a fortune watching these people and yet they are set free again and again to re offend. And to top it one admitted he has arrived here from Barcelona to get his back fixed on the NHS confused

I have 2 very good Romanian friends and they both tell me that the Roma are really hated in Romania because they tend to be criminals and send their children out to beg and steal. They also have a completely separate culture from the majority Romanians.

I'm so confused. There is freedom of movement within Europe. This means that people coming from Romania to rob could happen. It might amaze people to know that people sometimes come from the poorer parts of the UK to rob in the richer ones shock. Just because their passport is the same colour as mine, doesn't make it better or worse. I'm sure some people go to Europe from here to offend (football hooligans anyone?).

I have a lovely friend from Romania. He told me to nail all my stuff down in preparation of the new lax rules for Romanians/Bulgarians.

I was a bit hmm when he said it but since watching that program...

I wonder how many of these British people living abroad are signed on in their country of choice? wink

Lueji Wed 27-Feb-13 18:56:23

People move freely in Europe as they do in the UK and pickpockets are not a UK exclusive.

It allows easy travel for British tourists as well as for a large number of uk nationals to live abroad, including pensioners making good use of their pensions.
And British criminals too. smile

Do they not check these people's crime records before they swan in ? Or are their country glad to be rid ?

NamelessHereForEvermore Wed 27-Feb-13 07:29:58

Yes Hesterton. They are people. Everyone is 'people'. We have limited resources and an already overpopulated island. What quantities of 'people' should we be happy to absorb. Really - I'm not coming at this from any kind of xenophobic position - I'm interested. Where does it end? Where should it end? Just suppose you were in charge - at what point would you say "Enough people"?

Hesterton Wed 27-Feb-13 07:09:58

Bulgarians and Romanians are always confused with Roma, who are travellers who often live to their own laws - incredibly different cultures. The Romanian and Bulgarian migrants I work with, both adults and children, are in the main cultured and hard working with a strong ethos of education and aspiration. The adults work long hours for little pay to support their families.

Being 'flooded' by them sounds just peachy.

Think about the connotations of using the words 'swamp' and 'flooded'. These are people you know.

I don't think Australia wants them any more BruisedFanjo grin
Is the government really just going to sit back and allow Bulgarian and Romanian immigrants to just flood the country? I can't see how the UK can absorb the number they say will be turning up.

Using children to pickpocket/steal/run scams has been around for ever. Not that its right of course, its disgusting, but its one of the oldest tricks in the book.
Fagin and The artful dodger etc, anyone? Although I believe the artful dodger was sent to Australia for his crimes, not sure they do that anymore!

Lonelybunny Tue 26-Feb-13 21:53:12

It is a worry though isn't it , considering they also use children to pick pocket as well. This country is going to the cleaners sad

nameless that's a bit of a generalisation! It did make me laugh I admit but that's because I have had a tough day, plenty of wine and am feeling silly blush

It's a bit off to categorise people like that. I'm assuming a Romanian or Bulgarian will be along shortly to flame you, hopefully you have your extinguisher!

jinsymaw Tue 26-Feb-13 21:34:46

Sick of Britain being seen as an easy touch for immigrants to come and rip us off! Whether it being benefits, begging or stealing. When is the govt. going to look after its people?

Shakey1500 Tue 26-Feb-13 21:33:49

I used to work with the tall, greying plain clothes policeman. He's a hoot grin

Lonelybunny Tue 26-Feb-13 21:32:31

Lonelybunny Tue 26-Feb-13 21:24:03
