AIBU?

to think some guy in a yoga forum is a total wanker?

I like yoga, so I joined a forum to share ideas and listen to what other people have to say. There's one person who answers almost every post with "yoga is a serious path, take it seriously" and a lot of other sanctimonious crap telling people how they should be thinking and what they should be doing. I want to smack him. (Not very yogi-like, I know!) :D

What is it about yoga that makes people think they are so superior?? I practice at home, in the oldest clothes I have. I don't care what other people eat, or how they do things. I want to accept people for how they are, not tell them how they should be. If they like fancy yoga pants, good for them. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, or judge them and call them down.

sorry for the rant - I've just had it up to hear with these holier-than-thou people I keep running into.

:)

I used to do Bikram yoga and loved it sooo much and got quite evangelical (irritating) about it, but in the sense that I went on and on how I'd lost two dress sizes in a month and felt like I was floating etc and do on. I could never 'buy into' all the woo though. Could never pronounce the movements, didn't fall for spending scads on the gear and, mist importantly, I never joined the forum! I found it was easy enough to keep myself separate from the woo.

So YANBU that he's intensely annoying but you are BU to be involved in it Wink

YABVU to let it bother you enough to post about one random stranger you haven't even met. Very!

Attitudes like that was one of the reasons I stopped doing yoga, it was too cultish for my liking. I didn't like it much anyway but the whole "take it seriously" thing pushed me over the edge - I was just doing it as a form of exercise and to help me relax.

That said, I am totally clueless about the thinking behind it all, so I suppose to someone who's really into it I might seem really annoying. What always surprises me is that a lot of yoga devotees are very anti-religion and the people who did yoga with me were the first to slag me off about being Catholic, yet their devotion to yoga is very much like that of an extremely religious and dogmatic person. The irony seems totally lost on them.

I flat shared with a holier-than-thou yoga freak for a bit. He moved out after having a full on fist fight with the I'm-so-laid-back surfer dude over the washing up. Tosser.
