AIBU?

To wonder why people post on 100+ post threads having read nothing more than the OP

As it says really. I've noticed a lot that people pop in with a comment on a thread based purely on the OP, without bothering to read the rest of the thread. Obviously people don't always have time to read everything but does it not occur to them to think the other 100 plus posts have been about something, so the subject might have moved on?

Often on a thread, the OP isn't the crux of the thread anymore.

Or sometimes the OP has come back and clarified something that people have misinterpreted in her first post or dealt effectively with some point a few people have made or apologised and said 'yes, I obviously was being unreasonable' and then someone comes on and attacks her for the same thing.

I know, it can be really funny sometimes Grin.
And there's no reason to read the whole thing, if you can't be bothered, you can get the gist by reading the highlighted posts.
I like to put RTFT on those sort of posts.

YADNBU! I was on the MIL on last weekend (snooping MIL and OP wanted to play a trick but progressed in to MIL having drink problem). That thread changed and moved on a number of times, yet there were still people coming on and commenting on the OP a good 700 posts in! Very irritating and lazy especially when I'd had to read it from start to finish to get what was going on Grin

How do we stop it?

Sometimes threads have about 20 pages and most people don't have time to read through all of that, but are interested in the subject so want to add their twopenneth (sp?)

I tend to skim through when they are that long and maybe read just the OPs comments. If I just want to add my opinion quickly but don't have time to skim even, I'll write "Not read the other replies, so the thread may have moved on but..."

The other day I did that on a 20 page thread and then someone replied "Amazingly Donder the thread has not moved on at all and we are still going over and over the same ground." (The OP was refusign to accept that she was being unreasonable!) Grin

They are lazy arses? Grin

Don't know.
(Disclaimer: haven't read the whole thread)

RTFT would probably get lost on the ones that do it as they don't come back on the thread and/or are new and don't understand the abbreviations. Maybe if we shout:

READ. THE. FUCKIN'. THREAD - that might work? Grin

And that's the way to do it though Donder (eg skim read the Op's posts, and start your post with 'haven't read all the thread...')

Why I'm getting so worked up about this I have no idea!

I must admit that I feel like more of a lazy arse when I do sit and read through a 20 pager. I should really be getting on with something else! Grin

I tend to only comment on threads that have less than 2 pages of posts! Grin
I have however been caught out once or twice by not realising that there was more than one page, I'm not sure if it's because I'm thick or because my laptop doesn't always show all the posts.

Babies. It was about a Hungry Caterpillar themed 1st birthday party. The OP was going to lay out the food and let the babies help themselves, baby led weanign style, rather than parents serving them. Probably a couple of weeks ago now.

I check and see if the OP has posted any more but I never read anyone elses comments before I post. If someone asks an opinion I think its better to post with your initial reaction than to read what everyone else says and maybe not bother posting for fear of getting flamed if you don't agree with the majority.

Glad it's not just me.

Fadbookit was the snooping MIL that really wound me up, like you said, by the end it was about her drinking problem, not a lighthearted thread about a nosey parker.

Don't know what the answer is? Maybe take a test on the facts before you can post Grin

Sometimes I don't read all the psts but I do read all the OP's posts. Depends on the subject or dilemma.

I have been caught out by zombie threads, only realising they are zombies after posting. Blush

Missymoo, reading all the OP's post at least tells you all the information they have given, I'm talking about the blatant instances where posters have read only the first post and commented on only it, 100's of posts later when, like atthewelles said, the OP may have clarified things or given more detail or just agreed they were BU about that part but there's more to it.

It's OK mardy, it's got less than 100 posts so it doesn't count Wink

You can highlight your own and the op's posts in pretty colours of your choosing Mrsjay.
Don't you do that?
