Blush I'd be too afraid of accidental willy-spotting! Although I have run into the mens' toilet in a pub when there was no toilet paper in the women's. My friend was most concerned! There was nobody in there.

It depends on how you would react if a man rushed into the women's toilets if the men's were full of feminists really. If a desperate person needs the loo that badly then of course, they should go to the nearest available one, but it has to work both ways doesn't it?

Plus I think that the feminist argument is generally FOR gender-segregated toilets. I quite like having a female-only space to do my business...

I told a group of young people about this (I work in housing). They had never heard of women using a men's loo. I told them I wasn't waiting in a queue, they looked mystified.

I tend to do a need to use basis for my ablutions. i wasnt aware I was making a political statement.

I do assume you wouldnt mind a bloke in the ladies loos?

I operate on a need-to-go basis Grin. Seems mad to stand crossing your legs when a toilet's right there.

The soap was different and the hand creme had hardly been used. Added a bit of spice to the evening.

I'm struggling to see the feminist angle here? Confused

If I was bursting for a wee and really couldn't hold it, I suppose I would ask a member of staff if it was ok to use the Men's loo.

But...well that's it really. I still can't see where feminism comes in?

I really don't like the idea of men coming into women's toilets whenever they want. I get that everyone is behind doors etc etc and I don't mind genderless toilets but if I think I'm in a female only space then I want it to be a female only space.

I know what you mean IThink

And if we had to get our fanjos out to piss in a urinal on display, I'm sure we'd be even less happy with a man walking in to take a piss Grin

Nope, clearly I have my dim hat on tonight. Im not seing what great strides are being made in the name of equality by invading male space.

We wont even mention they stink and piss all over the floor. but as I said earlier, if needs must, then needs must. I hardly call it a magnificent political statement and making strides in the world.

Report
ClippedPhoenix · 09/02/2013 00:05

Why should it be a female only space though? I really don't get this. To me that's sexist.

I'd rather do away with troughs or urinals and toilets being just that.

Sorry, I'm with people who think it's not really on.

I'm all for having more unisex loos, but I don't think it's fair to just barge in when the people inside have a reasonable expectation there will only be men in there.

Haven't you seen the episode of Community where Shirley has to teach Britta how women talk in the bathroom, and she offends her by going off on a feminist rant? Grin

Also, probably silly, but I was changing my pad the other day and I heard someone in the next cubicle do the same and it was just nice to know that they wouldn't have been freaked out by hearing that, if that makes sense.

I agree with LRD

I think gender segregated toilets are important. I'm not saying unisex toilets shouldn't be introduced, but the thought of abolishing gender segregated toilets makes me feel nervous tbh

I have to sort of disagree here LRD in as much as there are twice as many male toilets as there are womens and I will go in a male one instead of standing pissing myself outside a "ladies"

Mmm. I think I'd rather be angry if there are twice as many men's toilets, TBH. I see where you're coming from though.

It just feels to me, well, it's not the individual blokes' fault, who're in there merrily peeing.

I mean, if you really REALLY have to go, that's understandable, but if you just can't be bothered to wait, then that's just lazy and rude imo

Report
ClippedPhoenix · 09/02/2013 00:19

There are two toilets always, it's standard issue.

Report
WorraLiberty · 09/02/2013 00:23

Well let's see

How many women would accept a random man walking into the ladies toilets unannounced if we had more toilets than them?

I'm quite sure words like 'ogled' and 'personal space' would be bandied about.

To be honest, if someone has a bladder problem that means they can't wait 5 or 10 minutes from the second they feel the urge to urinate, they would probably be entitled to use the disabled loo.
