to ask what your toddler daughter calls her bits?

I only ask as I was fairly mortified the other day to hear my (just) 2 year old refer to her "bits" as her fandango - she has obviously heard me say it in passing at some point in the past blush but she's got it totally in context.

Just wondered if there was any reasonable terminology. We always called it a vagina when I was younger but I hated it as a word - still not desperately keen.

The last DCs I looked after, the little girls called it 'noofy'. DCs currently - "balls" but possibly as she is only 5 and has a big brother & may be a bit confused!

Girls have bottoms and boys have winkies.According to DD age 3.

I so regret telling dd2 that she had a vagina. Ever since it's been yap yap yap, vagina this 'gina that.

Once we were watching the Wiggles visiting the Great Wall of China.

Cue dd bellowing I'VE GOT A GREAT WALL OF 'GINA

Cringe cringe shudder

Vulva - or rather, vuwva. (Thanks to MN of course)

Idocrazythings Thu 31-Jan-13 20:11:51

We say giny (as in tiny with a g) I know it's actually a vulva but vulvie sounds wrong and there is a vagina in there!

mrsrupertpenryjones Thu 31-Jan-13 20:13:50

We use girly bits here.

IWantAnotherBaby Thu 31-Jan-13 20:21:33

Front bottom (DD aged 5) or 'bits'. But I like 'Minnie'. Very cute.

Meglet Thu 31-Jan-13 20:24:32

4yo DD sayd vulva or binky. Usually vulva these days, I'm quite impressed she cottoned onto it so fast.

RugBugs Thu 31-Jan-13 20:25:48

DD 2.2 is also yet to distinguish between front and back.
They are both 'bot bot'.

TheCountessOlenska Thu 31-Jan-13 20:26:04

Bot-bot. I don't know why. Her bottom is her bum though so it is differentiated!

Clawdy Thu 31-Jan-13 20:27:39

DD always said Crotch. Simple and pretty accurate. I always hated the "bottom" terms,it's not part of your bottom. It also makes it sound ridiculous when you're trying to explain about sex when they're older.

ByTheWay1 Thu 31-Jan-13 20:58:15

Girl bits and boy bits..... makes it easy if someone hurts them - "x kicked my girl bits" is different to a teacher to "x kicked my botbot" as is "x touched my.... girl bits" different to x touched my botbot"

BlackholesAndRevelations Thu 31-Jan-13 21:10:57

Good grief. I think "Vulva" sounds as wrong coming out of a three-year-old's mouth as "fanny", to be honest, anatomically correct or not. My daughter calls it her privates; trying to teach that it's a private place. Boys have it easy, as it's a willy (or penis). None of this foo foo and fru fru and tinkly tuppence malarkey.

BlackholesAndRevelations Thu 31-Jan-13 21:12:02

Oh and Minnie is a PERSON'S NAME! hmm

gazzalw Thu 31-Jan-13 21:13:30

She used to say "front bottom" but now says "minnie" instead! She's got that from one of her school friends!

jamdonut Thu 31-Jan-13 21:19:18

My gran always used to say it was "your penny"!! And that is what I used to call it when I was younger. But for DD I used to say front bottom and back bottom.

mummytowillow Thu 31-Jan-13 21:22:59

Doo da grin

mrswoz Thu 31-Jan-13 21:25:41

We say foofoo. Or sometimes just foo.

My family used the word mini for it when my sisters and I were growing up and I hated it, lots of people drove round in Mini cars at the time and all my friends called it a fanny, I wanted to be the same as them!

ledkr Thu 31-Jan-13 21:26:00

Dd2 who is 2 says wa wa as she pats the appropriate bit!!
Dd1 always said lulu which is nice expect that's my name!!

FarelyKnuts Thu 31-Jan-13 21:28:04

My 3yo DD insists its all her bum and laughs uproariously when I try to talk about vulvas grin

Arcadia Thu 31-Jan-13 21:28:29

My DP started 'bits and bobs' but that can backfire when I thoughtlessly say 'just going to get some bits and bobs from the car'!

Arcadia Thu 31-Jan-13 21:30:18

Was discussing this with a friend the other day. DD is 3.3 and will refer to it as her bottom which is confusing if she says her bottom is sore. Having read this think I am going to use 'girl bits'. When we were children we always said fanny but for some reason people seem to think that is rude now.

paddyclamp Thu 31-Jan-13 21:33:13

Nowt wrong with fanny imo...hate front bottom etc...poo doesn't come out of it! smile
