I was visiting a neighbour who has a DD a similar age as mine, her DD is 13 months, my DD is 10 months.
The DDs were playing side by side with us sat on the sofa drinking tea, when my DD bit her DD, cue screaming.
Before i had chance to react, my neighbour picked up my DD and said 'no, you don't bite.' and bit her on the arm saying 'see, how do like it?' cue DD crying.
I saw red, and snatched DD back and shouted 'What the hell do you think your doing?' and walked out.
She then sent me a text saying that she was sorry she upset me but babies need to learn and has just sent one saying she's really sorry but she thinks i totally over reacted and that it wasn't that hard a bite and it didn't leave a mark.
I'm still angry at her.
I don't think i was BU but i know I've been a bit PFB before, so wibu? AIBU to not want to see her again?

YANBU, it's not up to her to discipline your child! And as for biting her? I would be furious

Words actually fail me!!!!!

She bit YOUR child!!! Fucking hell YANBU!! I would not be speaking to her ever again and she would be getting a message telling her just how unreasonable she was to bite someone elses child.

OMG - she bit your DD.
I would be fuming.
This is debated on here time and again and every time +90% of MNetters agree that it is totally unacceptable to bite a baby.
Blimey, what was she thinking.
YANBU in how you reacted but you may like to discuss with her and tell her that she overstepped the mark and she should never harm your child again!
Still feeling shocked for you!!!

Bloody hell. YANBU. And not PFB either. Avoid her from now on. Hope your DD is OK.

YANBU! I would've been livid if this had happened to one of my DC. I never minded anyone telling my DC off if they had done something wrong, but physical abuse is entirely different Shock
Of course your DD has to learn that biting is wrong, but it is up to you to teach her that - and she is very little at the moment. A simple 'no' whilst moving her away, and making sure she saw you saying sorry to the other chhild would have been sufficient.

Love how she thinks a ten month old os going to associate biting with being bit - they barely even know theyre born let alone make connections like that!!

I would never darken her door again.

She's clearly a loon.

YANBU - did you take photos? I would have called the police as well. Babies bite, her child wouldnt have been badly hurt. She was the adult.

Actually, shove it. Call 101, show them the texts and let them give her a verbal warning. Disgusting.

Jesus Shock. That is terrible.

IMO biting your baby or child to "teach" it that biting hurts is utterly ridiculous as well as cruel. Biting someone else's child is beyond my scope of understanding. Is she usually a bit strange?

Your baby is ten months? Good grief. I would be so upset if I were you. I do hope your baby is OK now. Do you know how hard she did it?

Pity she's a neighbour. Personally I would never want to set eyes on her again.

WTF? She bit your child?!

Report
HecateWhoopass · 30/01/2013 14:10

Totally unbelieveable!

I would be texting her back saying you consider that she has assualted your child and she is to stay the hell away from you from now on and she'd better cross the road when she sees you or you'll be biting her and see how she likes it!

oooh, it's got me really cross this has! Grin

Sorry she upset you but not sorry she sunk her teeth into your child! Shock

Nobody should be biting a child. Not your own and sure as hell not somebody else's.

Jeezy chreezy! Yelling at her and leaving would be the least I would have done. You were remarkably restrained for not lamping her. YANBU at all. I wouldn't have anything more to do with her and would be more than happy to explain why to anyone that asked.

Chingchok · 30/01/2013 14:10

Unbelievable behaviour. She completely crossed a line so no, you are not being unreasonable.

Plenty of people subscribe to this form of discipline, to shock their own children out of persistent biting, but I don't think anyone would justify physically hurting someone else's child.

The fact that your daughter is still a little baby makes it doubly shocking. You did not overreact at all.

YANBU

Your neighbour is stupid. She assaulted a 13 month old baby! Shock

She has no right acting out her ignorant 'methods' on anyone elses child.
