He has wired his coat with heated wires, and will connect it to his motorbike.

It is madness, right?

usualsuspect Sat 26-Jan-13 19:05:01

Sounds like madness to me. YANBU

Is he well insured?

MrsTerryPratchett Sat 26-Jan-13 19:33:02

Is he an electrician or a madman?

PomBearWithAnOFRS Sat 26-Jan-13 19:33:11

Why didn't he just buy a proper, safety checked, guaranteed heated coat and/or gloves from a reputable manufacturer? confused

KenLeeeeeee Sat 26-Jan-13 19:33:48

YADNBU! Ye gods, that sounds terrifying. He's a loon.

CloudsAndTrees Sat 26-Jan-13 19:36:10

It's madness when you can buy a vest that will same thing that's been safety tested already. A friend uses one of these for scuba diving. It would probably work for motor biking, if one doesn't already exist specifically for that, which it probably does.

McNewPants2013 Sat 26-Jan-13 19:38:04

He is crazy.

HavingALittleFaithBaby Sat 26-Jan-13 19:46:11

There are definitely ones that already exist, DH has looked at one. I would be terrified at the idea of him riding in a homemade one!

MousyMouse Sat 26-Jan-13 19:50:59

you can buy these coats (probably £££) already. perfectly safe.
reminds me of the time when a friend used a heated blanket as bum warmer in the car, the scar took ages to heal, arsehole took on a proper meaning

fuzzysnout Sat 26-Jan-13 19:54:59

Sounds like a plotline from 'Casualty'.
If it was my DH I would be getting rid of it ASAP.

HavingALittleFaithBaby Sat 26-Jan-13 19:58:39

not ^that^ expensive....

catgirl1976 Sat 26-Jan-13 20:11:29

Oh dear me confused

YANBU - Make him stop!

quoteunquote Sat 26-Jan-13 20:20:57

Brilliant idea, I hope he develops it, everything has to be invented by someone,

I got hypothermia on a motor bike once, so I think it great.

IAmLouisWalsh Sat 26-Jan-13 20:29:26

Bloody hell - that sounds fun...

PureQuintessence Sat 26-Jan-13 20:35:20

Dh is crazy. He has no concept of safety. He injures himself a lot. <sigh>

He does have life insurance though.

LondonInHighHeeledBoots Sat 26-Jan-13 20:42:18

Seriously, you can buy them from Lidl half the time, he's mental. It will burn through and ruin the coat, does he realise this? Is he likely to desist if he knows it will wreck his stuff?

SquinkiesRule Sat 26-Jan-13 22:22:23

OMG he has a death wish.
I had no idea they actually make this stuff for sale.

UKSky Sat 26-Jan-13 22:52:27

Yes, you can buy all sorts of heated clothing for use on a motorbike. I also know a lot of people who have DIY versions and they haven't combusted.

I assume he hasn't just stuck bare wire into his jacket and wired it up to the battery.

If he's done it properly it would be no different from a commercially manufactured one.

Have you got a picture?

PureQuintessence Sat 26-Jan-13 23:31:39

He loves projects. He is pretty clued up. I HOPE he knows what he is doing.

TapirBackRider Sat 26-Jan-13 23:35:48

It may void his vehicle insurance as he's making an undisclosed modification to the motorbike....
