She first did it when DS was 3 weeks old. When I mentioned it to DH he said he saw her do it but she probably wouldn't do it again which she didn't until this afternoon twice!! DS is 6 months but no matter how old he is I don't her or anyone's nose in his mouth AIBU?

Get over yourself your child will have a lot worse things in his mouth when he starts playing in the garden!

lol, wait until you find him sucking on a snail as if it's a gobstopper.

No thats gross, I wouldn't like it. If you see her do it again speak for your ds - say 'yuck nanny get your germy nose out of my mouth I don't want to catch a cold from you'. Ewwww!

YABU - I've seen the things my two have put in their mouths over the years (and can only imagine the things they've put in that I haven't seen) and a human nose is far from the worst...

Depends, just the tip of the snout, or full on nostrilage?

"Totally out of order"?

You're being dramatic. Tell her you don't like it, remind her. Don't be surprised if you get a Hmm face.

Yabu. That's what some of the older generation do. There are worse things to worry about

It's minging.

Utterly, utterly gross. The nose is full of germs and snot and bogies. No way would I want my baby sucking them out of some old codger's nostrils.

YANBU

YABU.
DH does it to teeny DS. he thinks it's a nipple and sucks on it and it's very cute!
Does your mil have a huge infection on her nose ? if not, I'm guessing PFB?

Bowlersarm Something that some of the older generation do? If anyone I know / knew had done it, it would have gone the rounds like wildfire! Where did you get that notion from? I've never heard before of an adult nose being put into a baby's mouth.

OP, tell your MIL to keep her nose out!

Maybe just my experience then? A bit like putting finger knuckle (is that what it's called?) in mouth when teething. I might be a little older than most posters..

While I do agree with people saying your ds will try eating worse things I do find it annoying when people mil especially deliberately put inappropriate things in my ds's mouth e.g. noses, dirty smokey fingers and pens...pens annoy me so much! My ds wobbles about and puts them to the back of his mouth aided by mil ready to fall and hurt himself! Do some people just have no common sense?!

Pissing myself here at the thought of the "older generation" going round habitually putting their noses in babies' mouths. Grin There's something I never knew about postwar Britain.

MadBusLady · 13/01/2013 17:09

Oh, you might well be right, bowlersarm! It's just not something I'd ever suspect of being generational.

Apparently I used to love sucking my dad's nose when I was a baby. Grin That was only 1991, so I don't think it's necessarily an older generation thing. FWIW, I turned out fine! Wink

Was it the tip of the nose or the nostril. If it was the nostril area, then yuck yuck yuckity-yuck. But if it was just the tip of the nose, I struggle to see the harm in that?

bowlersarm my mum used to give dd's the knuckle of her little finger to suck on at times. Usually when they were teething, and sometimes if they were screaming for boob and I was temporarily occupied (showering fo rexample). They'd think it was a nipple and it would give me a few grace seconds to finish up what I was doing before they realised Grin

YANBU, it's foul. Seriously, some people think this is ok. The older generation used to do a lot of things that aren't acceptable nowadays. Yuck. Tell her to stop doing it.

"...some old codger's nostrils."

It's not some old codger (what a vile ageist description!) is it? It's the baby's Granny.

Bowlersarm · 13/01/2013 17:17

Phew. I thought I was coming across as a bit weird then. I don't advocate it , I think they think it's just what you do and therefore it's not unreasonable If OP thinks that it is she should say something

Who the fuck puts their nose in a baby's mouth? How bizarre.

Mine used to stick her tongue out and encourage DD to play with it. Now that was gross!

YANBU for the 3 week nose invasion, I had a similar experience with 1 day old DC. We were still in hospital, DC about 24 hours old and MIL thought it appropriate to nuzzle her face all over DC's. Drove me, and my hormones, mad.

At 6 months however, they're starting to roll and crawl and probably picking up far more germs from the floor tbh. However, if it really bothers you I would say something.

Old codger, granny, young virile man, middle-aged baby sitter...I wouldn't want ANYONE'S nose anywhere near my baby's mouth. Is that better?
