I ordered a large shop from Tesco including Aptamil baby milk, as it was delivery I ordered all my large, bulky items and lots of baby milk, 99 x 200ml cartons, which is about 2.5 weeks worth of milk. 99 is the maximum that you can order.

My order arrived, with 11 cartons of milk, saying that the rest was out of stock. This meant that the majority of my order wasn't delivered, I called customer services to complain that I wouldn't have placed the order if they couldn't deliver the main items (i wouldnt have paid £4.50 to deliver just the other items) they apologised for not letting me know before delivery that the items wouldn't be delivers and refunded the £4.50. So far all clear until I asked when the stock would be available (I only have enough milk to last until Sunday evening) then it all got a bit weird, the store was called and the message relayed to me was that they have plenty of stock of the milk but won't supply more than 11 cartons from an online order to prevent people reselling and shipping it out if the country?!?! 11 cartons is roughly 2 days worth of milk for a 12 week old baby.

Tesco have nothing online about this 11 carton limit and don't plan on changing the policy anytime soon!?! If you go into the store you can buy more 11 cartons btw, they deny this but I did it, I bought 45 cartons from my branch when I first using the milk.

Before everyone starts on at me for FF I DID breast feed for 7 weeks, I had mastitis by day three and never got my left breast clear, had to take antibiotics which gave DD terrible diarrhoea (scary with a newborn) and after struggling with right breast only and then combination feeding I had to give it up at 7.5 weeks after mastitis kept recurring.

I am outraged that Tescos are treating their customers so badly?!?! I don't know when I will get out to a supermarket so have placed an order with Sainsburys.

I've bought far more than 11 cartons in one hit at Tesco. They're talking out of their arses. I've also done mixed online orders for ready made and powdered with no issues, particularly when we've been away from home.

And you don't have to explain your feeding choices. Bollocks to anyone who picks you up on them.

If they have a limit on how much you can buy, they really should point it out on the website, and not allow you to pay for 99.

On the other hand, why on Earth are you buying that many ready made cartons, it's about half the price to use powder!

They are being idiots. My DH bought 3 full boxes of Aptamil cartons from Tesco when we went on holiday and nobody batted an eyelid. And why would you want to resell it? Because the formula black market is thriving? Oh, and don't explain why you FF. You just do, I just did, it's nobody else's business.

Your title is rather misleading. They DO deliver milk they just won't deliver very large quantities of it.

They should make that clear on their website but I don't have an issue with them restricting it (or any other item)

I know, it's all i can do to be arsed to buy it for dd (although she's 1 today and i've just mixed my last bottle, hallelujah!). like anyone could be arsed to send it out of the country.

If 11 cartons is 2 days worth, 45 is a weeks worth.

most people to a weeks shopping in one hit online.

Ocado restrict delivery of bottle water, on weight grounds.

Not sure if this is relevant. Although bottled water should be banned, IMVHO

Do they do it in larger cartons, you can store these opened in the fridge for a number of hours, cannot remember how many. I'm assuming that you mean the ready mixed milk?

I had twins, it would have lasted me a day.

Maybe write a letter to Tesco HO? The shipping out of the country reason sounds bizzare, why 11 and not 15 / 20 etc? Just load up at the supermarket next time you can go.

The reason I am not using powder is because I needed an instant supply for when combination feeding and breast literally ran out mid feed, HV recommend Aptamil packs ready made. Plan on chaninging to the powder but not yet as don't want to upset baby's tummy, after the terrible diarreah initially then the switch from breast I don't want to change too much at once. I plan on sticking to this feed for at least another few weeks.

i have an issue with them restricting it. it defeats the whole bloody object of online shopping, especially as online shopping appeals to people who have difficulty or would rather not shop in store, like people with young babies.

Where I work we had to stop people bulk buying formula because they were buying it here and sending it abroad.(the customer told us, Far East, I think, to sell in her mums shop) We had a letter from Customs and excise and everything.

But that was the big tins and it was a. hell. of. a .lot.

The ready mixed ones are great for when you are out though, I kept using them.

I think Tesco have in their small print that you are not allowed more than x of any one item (I guess to prevent stock running out). I think Sainsburys do the same thing but say to ring them to confirm stock will be available.

Daft. I can see there might be a black export market in formula powder, but seems a bit unlikely with cartons - would people really ship mostly water round the world?

Grimma

People ship water round the world

Now that is stupid.

( see my comment about water above)

I have friends in the Far East maybe I should think about supplementing my maternity pay by becoming an international FF dealer?!

Seriously frustrating though, I now have to plan a trip to the supermarket and DH is working weekend.

Jamie - I know and ITA - but do people bother shipping it illegally? Buying for full retail price in UK and selling elsewhere, can't be a huge margin so shipping cost would be significant.

Whilst I think you're bonkers to be buying formula in cartons (faints at the cost) I think Tesco are wrong not to have told you about the restriction before they accepted your order.

I'd follow up with their Head Office and get the real answer. In store restrictions, not just in Tesco, seem to be more common nowadays I guess they do need to protect stocks for real customers not resellers.
