AIBU?

to wonder if all teenage siblings behave like this

I am looking after my brother (13) and sister (15) for the the next 5 weeks whilst my parents go trekking in the Andes for the 25th wedding anniversary. They've been here since Friday and they seem to swing wildly between being lovely and cute to each other to be being so nasty and hurtful.
On Saturday they fell out over a comment made on Facebook and it ended in a full fight until I realised and stopped it and they both had the look of hatred for each other on their faces. My brother has three nasty cuts on his neck where my sister dug her nails into him. I've also heard them call each other twat-face, slag, dickhead and prick etc.
On the other hand last night my sister helped him do his maths homework that he was struggling with and tonight my sister has had a netball game and he ran her bath and is in the living room rubbing her feet at the moment.
I'm quite a bit older than them so can't relate to them, do all teenagers behave in this way and have such variance in behaviour towards each other.

My friends younger brother and sister were exactly like that with each other. Have been since they were children. They're not much better now they're early 20's/late teens respectively!

You have the same set up as my children, my eldest is DD 23 and I have dd16 and ds 14..

They go from love to hate in a heart beat. Leave em to it xx

My twin nephews fight like cat and dog...but they are also each other's best friends and biggest fans. They can be lovely to each other and will always defend each other but other times you'd think they despised each other.

The only weird thing about your post is that he is rubbing her feet?! No way in hell my brother would have ever done that for me!

Rubbing his sisters feet?! Yes that is very bizarre...

My older two were a bit like this - would have physical fights at an embarrassingly old age over things like ownership of the TV hand-control but were fiercely loyal to each other. When DD's mate rang from a party to say that DD had had way too much to drink and was in a state, DS1 went to get her. When DS1 was in trouble, DD was on the train to see him in a flash. But put them in the same room for any length of time and there will be vicious slagging off and bitching.

I used to be like this with my little brother.

Woebetide anyone else who hurt or bullied him, but we'd tear strips off each other

My girls at 7 and 11 are like it now too. Alternating between being nice, helping, and standing up for, each other, they fight like cat and dog

Me and my sister had the same sort of relationship you describe... one day we'd be scrapping to the point of her shoving me into a dressing table breaking my toe, and me whacking her with my clarinet... then other days we'd gossip about boys and share make-up tips. Sounds totally normal! Just ride it out.

Yep! I have to say they've never scratched each other though. And I wouldn't like to hear them use language like that.
