They are meant to have good anti bacterial qualities and DH and I have done it ourselves - so WIBU to 'give' DS a garlic clove (peeled of course and at night time to exit the next morning ...)?

No no no. Stuff the bird not the baby

DuttyWine Sat 05-Jan-13 20:28:12

Won't a spoonful of calfig do the trick?

IvantaOuiOui Sat 05-Jan-13 20:28:53

He will never want to eat garlic again. It will always be bum garlic.

MamaMumra Sat 05-Jan-13 20:29:38

Please don't (if this isn't a joke)

I would love to know how this little trick was discovered.

PickledInAPearTree Sat 05-Jan-13 20:30:10

Oh my lord.

People stuck garlic up their bum holes?

Why why why?

You pop (frankly quite large) suppositories in children when they're asleep, they don't notice and they're at least the size of a garlic clove.

I have to say he did not seem v keen so we left him alonegrin

crashdoll Sat 05-Jan-13 20:31:09

Please don't do it!

crashdoll Sat 05-Jan-13 20:31:31

Cross posted. Glad you've decided not to.

AllYoursBabooshka Sat 05-Jan-13 20:31:38

Actually the more I think about it I'm talking shite, I would never do it.

Please don't.

AllYoursBabooshka Sat 05-Jan-13 20:32:31

Fairly certain that sticking anything other than prescribed medication PA would ring alarm bells with medical professionals. Unless the child was responsible.

CuddlyBlanket Sat 05-Jan-13 20:33:45

OP what did you get out of it?

CaptainNancy Sat 05-Jan-13 20:34:35

whats it for????'

ErikNorseman Sat 05-Jan-13 20:34:55

It would be a completely inappropriate thing to do.

scuzy Sat 05-Jan-13 20:35:13

WTAF? are you mental?

SDTGisAChristmassyWolefGenius Sat 05-Jan-13 20:35:56

Why does a bum hole need to have the bacteria in it killed? I am a trained nurse, and have never heard of the normal bacteria in the anus being a threat to health.

And I do not think you should be putting anything up your child's bottom unles you absolutely have to - ie. if a doctor has prescribed something, and this is the way it has to be administered. Tbh, if someone waited until I was asleep and then pushed something up my bum, I would be very unhappy indeed. As someone has already said, fine if it is your choice, but not if you are doing it to a child who, cannot consent, unless it is absolutely medically necessary.

And suppositories are made of fat that is solid at room temp but melts at temp so no way are they the same!

Fairylea Sat 05-Jan-13 20:36:17

Finding the idea upsetting to be honest.

Surely this can't be real ?

rechargemybatteries Sat 05-Jan-13 20:36:17

Why would you do this?

Willdoitinaminute Sat 05-Jan-13 20:36:26

Sorry melts at body temp.

Santasapunkatheart Sat 05-Jan-13 20:36:52

Sounds like my grandmother - she believed in mustard baths, coffee enemas and sticking baby buds in the ears.

She terrified me.

For so many reasons......NO!

Notoutorabout Sat 05-Jan-13 20:38:22

Whatever you ad your DH decide to do in the privacy of your own home is up to you. Garlic, fruit&veg, whatever.....

Yabu in relation to your poor ds though. Would not sound good in A&E.
