AIBU?

To turn up to the cinema late to avoid the ten minute toothpaste advert they show before the film?

I'm too tight to pay for full price tickets at the cinema on a regular basis, but I sometimes take the children to one of the reduced price 'kids' showings in the school holidays or on a Saturday morning. The tickets are cheap for three reasons: morning showing, films that have been out for months, and sponsorship.

They used to be sponsored by Lego, which would mean a thirty second Lego advert, then trailers, then the film. I had no problem with that.

They are now sponsored by a brand of toothpaste (I don't want to give them extra publicity by naming which). We now get some regular adverts, then the same awful TEN MINUTE ADVERT for the toothpaste every time. The first time I saw it I hated it, as did my children. This morning was my third viewing and it actually set my teeth on edge.

On the last two occasions I have made a note of the timings. The lights didn't go down until after the toothpaste advert, so I don't think our entrance would disturb people too much if we booked seats next to the aisle. WIBU to time our next cinema trip so we arrive after this abomination has been shown?

Sensible IMO - provided your DCs are settled when the film starts.

Ah the nurdels... Death to the nurdels. Its the bit when one says 'sisters hey' in that condescending tone. Makes me want to rip my ears off

Yanbu It's possibly one of the most annoying adverts I've ever seen.

It's the presenter that gets to me the most. I'm not sure she's even a professional; just some random woman who happened to have a t-shirt in the right colours.

What on earth can they talk about toothpaste for 10 minutes? Confused

I saw it myself this morning (for about the 5th time) and I have vowed to turn up later next time.

Oh, I turned up late because I hate all the gubbins that goes pn before the film. We always get there just as the film is starting. Sounds like I made the right choice.

I thought it was standard practice to only go in 15 mins after the advertised start time to avoid all the adverts.

Oh God, it's Alvin and the fecking Chipmunks on Saturday. I'd never be allowed to see Brave would I?

I hate that bloody advert but I'm afraid that we arrived that late we wouldn't be able to find enough seats altogether. I have seen groups arrive and have to sit separately.

I've never seen a toothpaste advert but can't you buy the tickets and get seats together but just not go into the cinema until after the advert?

I'm not sure why you're asking about being unreasonable, you can go into the screen whenever you choose can't you ? I don't get out much but I've never been to a cinema where they expect you to watch the adverts.

I always pre-book after an experience where we turned up on the day and the tickets had sold out. Sad

Today, when she asked "Did I hear someone ask who the Nurdles are?", DS2 said "No!" in quite a firm voice. Everyone in the audience laughed.

Yanbu. I saw the nurdles at a Kids Am showing today and it was hideous, it's worse than fingernails on a blackboard. A very large blackboard considering how fucking long it goes on for.

The reason I'm asking is that this is shown after the adverts, it's more like a sort of short film, albeit the worst one I've ever seen.

My worry is that if we turned up 20 minutes after the official time the film is advertised as starting, would they refuse to let us in? And I'm also reluctant to disturb the viewing of anyone who might actually be enjoying the NurdleWorld short, although if this thread is anything to go by, people would be glad of the distraction. As I said though, the lights definitely didn't go down until after it had finished.

I've never been refused entrance, and I always book on-line the night before. I never seem to go to popular screenings though.

No they will let you in. Lots of people turn up 20 mins in, our cinema has pre-booked seats though. You could always go and get your seats, then go off to get your pop coen once the ads are starting.

It was the most hideous info ad set out in the style of the crapest Cbbc program that never made it to air.

I'm going to do exactly this next time I take DS to the cinema.
We had to sit through it when I took him to see Brave and towards the end of the filme some kids were getting restless after sitting still for so long. If they hadn't shown 15 mins of bloody adverts they would have been fine!

I did enjoy the irony of watching a toothpaste advert while scoffing a bag of pick and mix though...

Thank you all. I will get over my punctuality obsession and go in late next time. I hate being late for anything, but I hate that film a lot more. Very glad we buy a different brand of toothpaste! Grin

OK, we're going to the cinema again this morning. The film is advertised as starting at 10.30. The thought of turning up late for anything makes me feel uncomfortable, but the thought of having to sit through 'Welcome to Nurdleworld' again is worse, so I'm going to aim to get there at 10.45.

We always turn up on time, bag our seats then go out to the Foyer to buy popcorn until the damn Nurdels have gone away. Why does it have to go on so loooong?
