My natural skin colour is pale and I have to say that I love it.

It doesn't necessarily mean that you are ill/never go out in the sun.

When I say I like being pale, some of my friends literally seem to shudder and pull the hmm face.

Yes I love having a tan when I come back off holiday because then it's natural but I wouldn't lie out in the sun for hours in order to get one.

I've been on holiday with a friend who will be out in the sun from 9 and refuse to leave her sun bed until the sun has actually gone.

Anyone else actually like their skin colour or as soon as your tan starts to fade will you jump on the sun bed or grab the nearest bottle of Saint Tropez?

I'm very pale as are my DCs, I often get asked if I'm unwell or "oh you look pale today.". Even DP said I looked very pale next to his tantastic sunbed sister.

I actually think as you get older being tanned accentuates your wrinkles, that's my excuse anyway.

I am pale too, never fake tan or use sunbeds as I like being pale. YANBU op.

TraineeBabyCatcher Tue 01-Jan-13 22:23:32

I don't mind the paleness, its the blemishes I have when I'm pale I don't like. When I have a bit of a tan my skins seems much nicer all round.

Yanbu. I am naturally olive but think the 'pale' look is beautiful! I think the fake tan look is not very attractive at all and always am a bit hmm at the sheer number of women who think it is attractive

HoHoHoNoYouDont Tue 01-Jan-13 22:25:30

Often guys at the office will say 'HoHoHo, you need to get on the sunbed/out in the sun/you look so pale, are you ill...' It goes on an on. When I tell them that's my natural tone and am happy this way they look confused

I think they're so used to all the fake women in the media that they forget what a real ski tone looks like!

* skin tone

I'm very pale-skinned and it used to bother me, but not any more. Since turning 30 a lot of few years ago, having healthy skin has been my priority.

I tried a spray tan once and it looked dreadful.

I think it's something that matters more to people when they are younger, or if you have friends who care about that sort of thing it rubs off on you (not the fake tan, I mean caring about having a tan).

Also, if you have DCs or not. Who has time to sunbathe, or even sit still for more than 2 minutes, once you have DCs?

WorraLorraTurkey Tue 01-Jan-13 22:27:53

I'm fairly pale and I don't bother with fake tan or sunbeds

I can't say I like the really pale look though

I was thinking how odd whatsername from Girls Aloud looked the other night on TV (is it Nichola?) because she almost glows in the dark grin

Then again, I think orange people look odd too.

I love being pale. Always have been, got to appreciate it as an adult. I have a constantly tanned and very wrinkly aunt. No thank you!

YANBU. I'm pale too and refuse to be made to feel I should change the colour of my skin!

Nuttyprofessor Tue 01-Jan-13 22:31:01

I have olive skin and look tanned all year, Italian DF. I hate sunbathing.

LuluMai Tue 01-Jan-13 22:31:46

I don't mind being pale cut but wish I had porcelain skin a la dita von teese instead of horrible brown blotches all over my face (aka freckles). Loathe them with a passion.

Cantbelieveitsnotbutter Tue 01-Jan-13 22:33:01

I'm pale and love it, never fake tanned never intend to. Can't see the desire in being orange, a lot of money and effort

musicmadness Tue 01-Jan-13 22:37:39

I'm pale and I like it most of the time. I never use fake tan or sun beds but I do like how I look when I come back of holiday too. The only reason I find myself disliking my skin tone is because I have dark circles under my eyes at the best of times but at the worst it looks like I have two black eyes!

robbins Tue 01-Jan-13 22:38:53

Pale and interesting - sadly I tan really easily a little bit of sun and I have a tan line from my watch

TessCowDirect Tue 01-Jan-13 22:39:01

I am a pale of skin and a redhead. I used to hate it but find that all those years of having to stay out of the sun are now paying dividends and I do not look my age.

HazeltheMcWitch Tue 01-Jan-13 22:40:03

I quite like being pale, but I don't really ever get my legs out, as they'd just be too blindingly white.

HazeltheMcWitch Tue 01-Jan-13 22:41:04

Well, I say white, they're more stilton-esque.

SnowWhiterThenWhite Tue 01-Jan-13 22:42:51

I'm very pale, I use fake tan on very rare occasions and tan very easily on holiday but I like being pale. I have dark hair so often get compared to Snow White (hence nick name). Hate being told I look ill/to pale/tired though.

RudolphiaRedNose Tue 01-Jan-13 22:43:44

Yes, I love it. I think quite a few make-up and nail polish colours actually look great with it, and if I much prefer experimenting with what works than trying to be tanned. Have never used a sunbed ever. I burn anyway so I've always tried to avoid too much sun and am delighted that now in my 40s I'm not very wrinkly.

I don't look white as a sheet because I'm quite rosy-cheeked, but the background colour is so pale that I've frequently had foundation salespersons stumped.

The only thing I'm not so sure about is super-white legs - I don't tend to get them out much especially as they're also quite chunky

soontobeburns Tue 01-Jan-13 22:44:41

Im rather pale. I dont love It but I would never use fake tan. I hate the orange patchy look.

I do sunbath for a few hours on hoilday but thats because I like reading a good book in the sun. But tan lines are awful!

memphis83 Tue 01-Jan-13 22:45:41

I like being pale apart from my legs as the are so pale they look blue in the cold but look blotchy and a bit like corned beef on a good day.
The most common reaction to announcing my engagement wasn't congrats but 'I take it you will have a spray tan on your wedding day!'

DamnBamboo Tue 01-Jan-13 22:46:30

I am very very pale. I am often told I look ill, which is frankly quite insulting because it isn't because I am ill (or that I look ill either) it's just that I'm pale and for some pale - sickly.

I avoid the sun as I am hyper-sensitive and suffer from This

although I am nearly 40 and have not one teensy wrinkle and often get mistaken for being a good ten years younger.
