AIBU?

to ask at what age should a woman no longer have long hair?

I love my long hair and right now in my life mid-20s I wouldn't dream of getting it cut.

I had it shoulder length once and it made my face look fat. Seriously.

But is there an age where long hair on a woman really isn't suitable or perhaps would be considered as a little mutton dressed as lamb kind of thing?

Seriously, in these modern times with stuff like shampoo, conditioner, hairdressers, etc - who cares?

No. There isn't an age. It depends on the woman, what she looks like and various other things.

Yes but everyone is unique - personally I think Lorraine chase should have short hAir at her age cos it would look better

I think its an outdated idea that women shouldnt have long hair over a certain age. I do, however, think that as you get into your 30s and 40s and beyond, you need a 'style' or something more groomed/done than just long hair in a ponytail or worn loose with no fringe/layers/effort put in. Its a bit like clothes, I guess. Boyfriend jeans, converse and a ponytail on a 25 yr old = cute casual. On a 45 yr old can just look a bit 'bag lady' Grin

No no no. I knew an elderly lady once who was so sophisticated. She wore her hair up in a plait tied round her head, Swedish style IYKWIM. I saw her take it down just the once - it was down past her bottom and a gorgeous dark grey colour. She always wore jewels and make up and perfume. When I'm in my 80s I shall be like her.

Why would there be an age? Have your hair how you like for as long as you like. I see young girls and women with thin straggly long hair that doesn't look healthy and older women with thick hair in good condition that looks fab. Depends on the hair and the person.

No. Infact, I quite like it when I see an old lady with long grey hair. Much nicer than a short, badly-dyed do.

Why should women get their hair cut at a certain age, seriously?

At what age should a woman no longer have long hair

^^there is no "should" about it :)

She can have her hair however long/short she wishes in whatever variety of colours and not give a jot what anyone else thinks.

Whatever age she feels like cutting it - I hate rules about hair length or colour

Depends on the person. My long hair is coming off on Saturday Shock and I'm 38. I've got a tiny bit of grey and I really don't want to dye my hair but long grey hair will be ageing so its going. Agree with spikey that it having a style is more important than how long it is.

We wear our hair to suit us, not our grannies generation. I'm not getting mine cut anytime soon!

if it's thinning a lot and the weight of it is making the situation worse, and the head owner WANTS to make it look thicker - it looks a bit thicker when shorter

no other reason though, long silver hair looks stunning on older ladies IMO

I'm with Alphabeti on this one.

I am seen some beautiful older women with the most gorgeous long silver hair.

I have no intention of having my hair cut.

I'm 55 and have long curly hair past my bra strap, I wear it both up and down (obv. not at the same time Wink).

Btw, that's for me personally. I think long hair can be lovely on older women but I don't have an elegant bone in my body and on me it'll just look like I cba.

There's a elderly lady who I see shopping who has snow white long hair which she wears in a plaited crown. It looks gorgeous.

Depends how thick it remains.

My friend (62 when she died) had long hair but it was dreadfully thin and tied back, made her look very haggard, it looked a lot better when she had it cut and a loose/demi? perm put into it to give it some life.

One the other hand my collegue (73) has long hair, waist length, and she usually ties it back and she looks divine, very aristocratic - but she is one classy lady, dresses well - actually she's just one of those gorgeous creatures who could wear a bin bag!

I have long hair and just a few greys starting (in my forties).

I intend to keep it long and hoping the few greys will develop into a Cruella D'Ville stripe.

It was an article I ready by Liz Jones.

I personally think each to their own. Although long hair that is in bad condition isn't a good look on anyone.

I definitely agree with the style comments.
