To notice that andys mum is a single parent in toy story?

Watching toy story 3 and there's a graduation photo of andy, his mum and sister.

Thinking about it I've only just notices that it is a single parent family.

Portrays single mums in a good light.

Think she was single in the first Toy Story as well. They were moving house so maybe due to getting divorced.

I'm not sure if he died, the younger sister was only a baby in the first film. Unless it was quite recent.

She organised the yard sale and move alone, she drove the kids everywhere etc, no mention of a Dad.

And she's made to look like a very together mother/person.

Hosting a birthday party, taking them to pizza planet, moving house.

She's not a depressed or sad woman.

Nemo was brought up by his single parent dad after mum died.

I think the likely explanation is that Dad has died very shortlybefore the first film began. Dad is never mentioned and it's quite apparent to me that Woody has a paternal relationship with Andy. In the third film mum says that Woody is 'an old family toy'. I think Woody belonged to Dad.

Maybe it isn't trills but I was surprised to have only just noticed this by the 3rd film.

I love Toy Story all the more because Andy's mum is a single parent.

I was 10 when the first Toy Story came out, I didn't even notice she was a single mum until I was about 15!

It's because making humans cost an awful amount on animated films so they just made one parent

I don't think there is any evidence that she is a single parent - merely that the father is not shown/mentioned, which is not the same thing. Why on earth does it portray single mums in a 'good light'? She's just a good mum, single or otherwise. I don't think there is any kind of preachy message or stereotype there, one way or the other.
