Advanced search thinking a head teacher and staff taking part in a Gangnam YouTube effort is inappropriate at best?

Or am I getting crusty?

I just don't understand how you can hold yourself up as a figure respected in the local community and performance a jiggy dance like a kangaroo chucking a lasoo- along with other 'mature' members of staff.

It is a Boys Grammar School and yet female members of staff are jiggying around to 'sexy lady' lyrics.

Purlease. It is in no way cool but more cringe making than David Brent.

Can't link from iPad but it's Boston Grammar School Gangnam.

Maybe I am just a bit of an old fart but I can't help feel standards are at an all time low when you feel the need to debase yourself this much to 'get down wid da kidz'

<And breathe........>

I wouldn't say they're debasing themselves, but Gangnam Style isn't the most creative choice!!

Glitterknickaz Thu 20-Dec-12 08:44:59

The head and deputy head at the school two of my kids attend did Gangnam Style in giant bunny outfits * shrugs *

Teachers thrusting their groins at a school show will not exsctly impress most teenagers. Imagine it would be fun to laugh at but cringeworthy. The kids will forget about the horror they witnessed, quite quickly and usial respect shall return.

AltinkumATEalltheTurkey Thu 20-Dec-12 08:46:03

YABU, the kids would love it, and so would quite a bit of adults.

RubyGates Thu 20-Dec-12 08:46:27

I'd put this firmly in the "First world problem" box.

valiumredhead Thu 20-Dec-12 08:47:04

Kids LOVE teachers making fools of themselves grin

Pagwatch Thu 20-Dec-12 08:47:10

I think you are being really crusty tbh.

I think being a figure of authority and respect is not the sme as being uptight and priggish. I value the ability to laugh at yourself enormously.

mnistooaddictive Thu 20-Dec-12 08:48:27

I have just watched it and seriously it is not at all contentious! It looks like it has been set up for an assembly as a joke. This is the type of thing teachers do. It is not sexy in any sense or trying to be. You need to get a life if this offends you.

thebody Thu 20-Dec-12 08:48:45

We did it to our school children yesterday. ( first school)

My dds school have done it ( senior)

It's was for charity both times and a good laugh.

When I was at school ( 70s and 80s) our teachers did equivelant.

A good teacher can have fun and discipline.

It's not a new concept.

LaCiccolina Thu 20-Dec-12 08:49:03

I have turned into ur own description! An old fart. Can't see why people can't be respected and funny? Not mutually exclusive are they?

Less enamoured with ladies prancing sexily, but only coz that's just so yawn making. Every Tom dick n britney does that. I'd rather see girls amount to being the next president, not dancing like in a video next to fiddy cent a likes.... (Paraphrasing Pink)

VivaLeBeaver Thu 20-Dec-12 08:49:12

oIve seen a canadian hospital one with midwives and ob drs. Its very good. But if we did it in an nhs hospital i think wed get sacked.

LaCiccolina Thu 20-Dec-12 08:49:22

U not I, damned iPhones!!!!!

Got to disagree too, children love the opportunity to see their teachers as real human beings and it in no way increases disrespect.

At our posh indy school the staff did a panto which the children loved.

misterwife Thu 20-Dec-12 08:51:35

I've seen a teacher get up and do 'Gordon is a Moron' by Jilted John in front of his (secondary school) charges!

Jins Thu 20-Dec-12 08:53:40

DSs Secondary school did it yesterday. Christmas is always a big production and it always goes down well. In fact the pupils have been wondering what the teachers will do for weeks.

I'm gutted it's not on YouTube.

I think respect is earned in very many different ways. The HT is pretty strict and fearsome and seeing him showing his other side goes a long way towards reassuring the pupils that he is approachable.

TurkeyGibletsGeekette Thu 20-Dec-12 08:55:37

Just watched the video and imagined my teachers doing this when I was at high school (20 years ago sad). It's brightened my morning!

LynetteScavo Thu 20-Dec-12 08:56:30

Hmmmm, I think you are getting a little crusty.

Jingleallthejay Thu 20-Dec-12 08:57:37

yabu and a litte crusty this flashmob thing is everywhere including schools it daft a bit off fun and lets the children see their teachers are infact human and a bit daft sometimes, stop being so serious I dont think children will lose respect for their teachers cos they do a dance. dd2s teachers did it for C IN this year she said oh it was cringy but did laugh about it

Jingleallthejay Thu 20-Dec-12 08:58:20

Jingleallthejay Thu 20-Dec-12 08:58:36

EweBrokeMyManger Thu 20-Dec-12 08:58:38

Bunny outfits you say FAB grin

silvercup Thu 20-Dec-12 09:02:26

YABU. I reckon I would have found that really funny when I was a teenager.

At our school we had a "6th Form entertainment" each Xmas - directed by the lower 6th, starring teachers doing various stupid sketches, songs and dances. It was HILARIOUS and the highlight of the school year!

Before the age of social media - but no different

It's fun.
