I did wonder about the smell. Or if people thouht he was unwell, but even if they thought that then they should have been calling an abulance not opening the car door

It says in the comments that they put alcohol on his coat so he smelled of it.

I agree that 'helped' should be in inverted comments - the people who advised him not to try to drive were the ones who were really helping!

I feel that people are really lax about drink driving in this country.
