Strted yesterday afternoon. Left side of my neck really sore, like I've slept funny or something!!! Anyway, no sleep at all last night and been sore all day today. Given that we're now on 2am nearly, it looks like another sleepless night cos of it.

Utterly fed up now, paracetamol doesn't do anything and can't take much else as 39 weeks pregnant.

Aaarghhh, so fed up, tired, grumpy and just want to sleep (while I still can)!!

YANBU. Necks really hurt! I had a cut to mine in my twenties and you don't realise how much you use a neck until something is wrong with it - it's constant. And that was only on the outside.

Bloody typical when you need as much sleep as you can get Sad
Rant away!

Ouch! Have you tried a heating pad?

yunbu!

I broke my neck last year so Ive become something of an expert in managing the pain!!!... the only thing that eases mine is REST... youve probably strained a ligament or muscle and thats really painful and does take a while to settle down i'm afraid.... do as little as possible, lay down with a supportive pillow... or kinda lay sitting up with your head fully supported so no weight is going thru your neck....

if you can find one.. see a CRANIAL osteopath... i swear i would never have got so much movement back in my neck without mine... in the meantime, blast it with a hot shower, use hot water bottle on it.... xx

I suffer a lot from this - no idea what brings it on but I can tell you that Ibuprofen is what you need and you need to take it before bed. The theory, as explained patiently by nursey friends, is that because it is painful the muscle will tense involuntarily during the night. The painkiller will stop the pain and therefore stop the tensing and it will get better much more quickly. Now this could all be complete bollocks - and probably is! - but it works for me!

I get this a lot.
Use ibuprofen and paracetamol on alternate 2 hours e.g. ibuprofen at 8am, 12noon, 4pm, 8pm and paracetamol at 10am, 2pm, 6pm and 10pm.

Also use deep heat (even though it stinks it does work!). Buy yourself an electronic massager and use 3-4 times a day. Also use a wheat pack to keep your neck warm and loose. This also helps with the pain.

Ensure your posture is good. Your sleeping arrangement is good i.e. pillow combinations, matress etc.

Don't take ibuprofen! See a doctor. Ifsomethings in spasm you should get a low dose muscle relaxant like valium for a short course. And can you get into see the maternity physio?

YANBU, how is it now op?

I crunched something in mine two and a half years ago whilst on holiday.

Every month or two it flares up, the last six weeks has been really bad.

I second, Deep Heat and Ibuprofen, i also take Codeine and Paracetamol in one.

Sleeping is a bloody nightmare.

Hope yours is feeling a bit better.

I dis mine 6 months ago and it's still sore Sad

My friend is a physio and recommended turning towards the pain as much as possible which has definitely improved it

Don't take ibuprofen when pregnant!

muscle relaxants are a bit extreme as a first choice medication! they have a huge effect on you! and not sure you should use them whilst pregnant!

seeing a physio is a good idea, especially if they can offer ultrasound treatment... which reduces swelling

I got this quite badly, my osteopath told me it all stems from holding DS on my hip with 1 arm. I got a hip seat for him & it hasn't come back. Apparently it's quite common,

I appreciate that's not what's going on with you OP, hang in there, not long to go now!

I get this a lot. My physio taught me how to stretch the muscles to ease it a little. If you want to try:

  1. Put something warm on the muscles heat them first eg wheat bag or hot water bottle.

  1. Sit up comfortably with your hands relaxed at your sides.

  1. Gently let your head fall to the side as if you are putting your ear on your shoulder. Go as far as you comfortably can being careful to keep your shoulders relaxed.

  1. Hold it for a few seconds then see if you can lower it further. Repeat until it really is as far as it will go.

  1. Slowly rotate your head to bring your nose down to your shoulder.

  1. Hold it for a few seconds and then slowly bring your head back to it's original position.

  1. Repeat on the other side.

DO NOT try to roll your head round. It's not good for your neck at all.

Sorry I missed the bit about you being pregnant. Check out which painkillers you are allowed.
