... to be pissed off with all this DH, DW, DC crap?

I am so sick of not being able to follow stories correctly because I get confused by who is a BFF, or a BBF, a DH, DC, a DSiL, a DMiL, DFiL, DC2R (dear cousin twice removed) or whatever - where did this trend start and why are we perpetuating it? It's been going on for years, and I've had enough of it ;)

EverlongLovesHerChristmasRobin Wed 05-Dec-12 21:47:25

Well it's not going to change so I reckon you need to wise up.

SantasStrapOn Wed 05-Dec-12 21:49:21

What Ever said. If you don't like it, nobody's forcing you to read it. Personally, I find it very easy to follow.

HerBigChance Wed 05-Dec-12 21:49:33

I don't think it's going to change either, but I find it twee and deeply tedious.

MamaMumra Wed 05-Dec-12 21:49:51

there you go

squeakytoy Wed 05-Dec-12 21:50:15

You must be quite new. I found it a bit odd at first, but you do get used to it and it is easier once you have been here a while.

wannabedomesticgoddess Wed 05-Dec-12 21:50:23

grin Everlong. Well put.

Yes, it's not rocket science!

I read a whole thread about NDN and christmas cards earlier.
Later this afternoon I realised what NDN stood for.
Now if they'd just called them DNDN it would have been perfectly clear!
YABU grin (btw)

Given that you appear to have mastered smilies, I shouldn't think it will be too long before you get the hang of the acronyms.

PomBearWithAnOFRS Wed 05-Dec-12 21:50:51

Just replace all the acronyms with "the person" in your head as you read, and it will be fine. It rarely actually matters who all these total strangers and their relations people are, you can still get the gist of their post and respond accordingly, and would maybe even be more unbiased without knowing "who's who" so to speak.

puds11isNAUGHTYnotNAICE Wed 05-Dec-12 21:50:53

YABU so says my DH, DW, DS, DD, DSil, DMiL, DFiL. IYKSWIM. HTH

bradyismyfavouritewiseman Wed 05-Dec-12 21:51:20

Loads of websites used these acronyms.

Get over it. If you know its been going on for years, how have you managed to never learn it?

ChippingInAWinterWonderland Wed 05-Dec-12 21:51:36

Are you struggling in other ways?

TheSurgeonsMate Wed 05-Dec-12 21:52:10

You are indeed being unseasonable. It works just fine.

usualsuspect3 Wed 05-Dec-12 21:52:19

It's the MN way, ain't gonna change anytime soon.

All forums have their own ways.

SecretSantaFix Wed 05-Dec-12 21:52:37

"It's been going on for years, and I've had enough of it ;)"

So you stomp your feet like a petulant four year old and we all stop using them?

Ruprekt Wed 05-Dec-12 21:52:55

Wait til you ackshully call your DH -'DH!!!!' grin

victoriaplum01 Wed 05-Dec-12 21:52:56

I get where you are coming from OP (LOL!) (Sorry, can't help it!) - I don't see the problem with the word 'hubby' - I have a hubby and I love him dearly. But apparently some MN'ers find it offensive, so to conform (and not draw unnecessary critical comments) he is my DH whilst I'm on here.

What happens when discussing dads? DD?! Isn't that daughter? confused

lovebunny Wed 05-Dec-12 21:52:58

it truly is a load of bollocks. almost daily i am concerned to notice that someone has fallen out with DB (david bowie) again...he must be a grumpy old bloke...

SPsFanjoIsSantasLittleHoHoHo Wed 05-Dec-12 21:54:07

Well my DP said to his DSis that our DC looked like their DC2R but my BF said her DH didn't agree and that BFFs DD said our DD looks like me and DS looks like my DB. My DF thinks DS is more like my little DB and DD looks like DM. DM loves been a DGM to her DGC. DPIL aren't so keen.

I don't see the issue. It's very easy to follow

ZenNudist Wed 05-Dec-12 21:54:22

2 letters are more identifying than 1. It's not exclusive to mn. There's lots of acronyms used in Internet forums to make it easier, particularly than typing husband or daughter every time. By all means if you want to type everything out longhand go ahead.

HassledHasASledge Wed 05-Dec-12 21:54:37

Resistence is futile. I don't use any other forums so I have no idea how many of our acronyms carry across elsewhere, but MN is what it is - put up with the DH stuff and benefit from the site, or move along.

FurryDogMother Wed 05-Dec-12 21:54:40

I'm about as wise about it as is possible, but it's still silly. What's so wrong with bothering to type 'my husband' (who may or may not be 'Dear')?, or 'my kids' (as opposed to 'the DCs'). It's just something people do, like sheep, because everyone else is doing it, and basically, it's rubbish, really smile If it was an AID to communication, I'd be in favour, but it isn't. Ack, think it may be bedtime :D
