Rather than judging her why not help her? Why don't you offer to have the kids for her one afternoon or invite her on a night out, or to an aerobics class etc etc. I'm sure she doesn't want to shout either.

Well then, tell her to stop shouting. It's abusive to the child and hard for anyone else to listen to. Tell her that she sounds mean and unpleasant and if that's how she feels about her son then she doesn't deserve him! Sorry, but I can't stand people who treat children like this and I would not stand back and watch them do it.

It is hard. I know she must be having a hard time (2 kids under 3) but.... the 2 year old is starting to pick up things she is saying and saying "I am not a ....." back to her.

I just wish she would stop the shouting. The poor wee thing flinches every time!

Calling him names? Her 2 year old? sad

This sounds like it verges on emotional abuse to me.

Does she have PND? Does she talk to other little ones like this?

If this were my SIL I'd be saying "Blimey SIL he's going to end up deaf or with a complex!" But then I am rather outspoken and genuinely love little kids. I don't think I could tolerate someone constantly shouting at a toddler!

YANBU to want her not to, but YABU if you expect her to change because of what you say. IMO anyone who can talk to a baby/ toddler in such a way has big problems somewhere. sad

SIL talks to her 2 year old DS like he is an idiot. Constantly shouting, barking orders at him, calling him names, etc.

Apart from being very annoying as it goes on like this every minute of every day, I really think the poor we thing is going to grow up with a complex and will be confused about they way he should communicate with people.

I understand that it's hard being with a todler all day every day but for the love of god.... STOP SHOUTING!!!
