to ask if you can search your bank statements online ?

I'm trying to search what payments I've made to a particular company in the last couple of years. I was expecting to be able to just search on their name; but not so, just have to trawl back month by month.Hmm

I'm with HSBC .
Do you bank with someone who offers online statement search ?

I would have to trawl through all mine. Have you tried calling, they may be able to do it on their computer system.

Could call them, but I was just really surprised to find that there wasn't a search facility.

Is this still normal ?

What do you mean by a search facility.

Do you mean a search for payments by entering a payee's name?

You can search by month or date on mine. Do you know the rough month at least?

Can't understand why you can't access your past payments?

Have you gone into the section where you set up payments and clicked on recipients already set up?

I have a few friends that work for that bank if you want me to ask them for you?

Yes Randall, just want to type eg. "amazon", "waitrose" and get an ordered list of all payments to them in last 6 months, year.

I can search mine by word or date, but only three months at a time. I would be seriously ticked off if I couldn't.

Yes, but what happens when you go into the section where you set up a recipient or standing order? Do you not get a list of companies and people?

Yes, on Natwest, although they've recently changed their site and I found it more difficult to find the facility.

DP has this facility with Ulster Bank, I believe all divisions of RBS use the same online system so perhaps that would be a good option for you

I don't think you can with HSBC but I think you can download transactions in spreadsheet format and sort them from there

HSBC lets you download the PDF file. Just do a word search in the files (one by one alas). Usually it's on the toolbar at the top or press CTRL+F to get the dialogue box up. Or maybe the new-fandangled search facility in Windows 7 might find it for you?
