Right, hands up ... anyone who suffered from HG, how many of you were asked if you had tried ginger biscuits? And how many of those helpful people did you punch?

Yes and everybody...ginger biscuits do NOT work!

I didn't have HG, but I had terrible MS, I had to have carrier bags in the car to puke en route to work, en route home, generally out and about etc. I just puked all the time. I tried ginger biscuits, ginger tea, raw ginger...fuck all worked. I wanted to hurt everyone

That you Kate? Grin

No sensible reply, I was lucky enough not to suffer from MS at all.

You are not allowed to kick them in the cunt when they say it. It is vexing.

My stupid fucking cock of a GP suggested this, and if I hadn't kept down food or water to come back in two weeks.

Luckily the maternity ward admitted me, kindly gave me a drip, drugs that burned and bed rest. I still love the midwife that sorted that for me.

I was given a range of solutions.
Ginger generally, grilled chicken, pears, cheese (WTF).

What i did find helped me was salt and vinegar squares and orange fanta!

I was so sick.....

They didn't work either. Flipping waste of money those wristbands. Mind you I was so desperate, I tried most things.

Ditto HairyGrotter. I tried ginger pills. If you call throwing them up in the car park of the chemist I bought them in working, then they worked.

I didn't have the strength to hurt the people who suggested them. I would have threatened to upchuck on them if that helped.

A good pure shot of fizzy pop (or ice lollies) always seemed to take the edge off a little I found.

But it was different with each of my pregnancies and if you'd have given me a fanta when pregnant with DS2, I'd have poured it down your front.

Yeah Sparkling, an injection into a vein, it burned all the way up. Made me high as a kite too. Stopped the vomiting though. I had it during labour too, contractions and vomiting = painful. I didn't mind the contractions once I'd stopped vomiting.

I had acupuncture to 'cure' it. It didnt help me a jot.

Blimey Cortana I was hoping it was a typo. What on earth was it they gave you? Sad

Ginger biscuits,
Ginger Beer,
Travel Sickness bands
Eat little and often
Eat something as soon as you wake before getting up

Don't worry it will be gone by 12 weeks / 16 weeks / 20 weeks..........you're still being sick !!!

HairyGrotter · 03/12/2012 20:25

Was it that anti-sickness guff? I had that during my c-section, I puked a goodun' during that too, they had to hold my stomach in, actual fucking organ of a stomach. Happy memories (I'm sticking to just the one child, ta)

I had projectile vomiting in labour too. It was fun when the only liquid I could face was cranberry juice. The bathroom was bright pink from top to bottom.

Everyone suggested it like they'd found a cure for ageing. I punched none of them, because I couldn't move without puking. But I cursed them with my mind.

I had it so bad with my first son (now 14) I was on bed rest for 4 months!

Complan Envy kept me alive.

I was sick every day of my pregnancy, with all 3 kids!

easy births though Confused

yes, I say fuck off to ginger biscuits too.

Oh, and ice -pops , saltine crackers , and rich teas!

Stupid cow of a GP (who was later struck off!) kept telling me that, 'feeling a bit sick is normal' when I literally could not even keep water down and had lost nearly two stone within 4 weeks. As soon as I had my first hospital appointment, they insisted on admitting me immediately and shoving me on a drip. This happened in both of my pregnancies - stupid GP did nothing even though she could see that even my tights were falling down because I'd lost so much weight and even though my skin had turned yellow.

So no - ginger biscuits don't freakin' work!

Oh and even more fun is when you're in hospital on a drip, you're throwing up everything so can't keep down any anti nausea pills they give you, so you have an anti nausea injection instead and have an allergic reaction to it. So there you are in bed with your tongue swelling up and half blind because that's part of the reaction - and the doc shouts for all of the junior docs to come and have a look at the freaky lady in the bed. Ugh - that's why I stopped at two!
