Not to put the rubbish put until I find this ring!

This is very strange! I have a ring that I wear on my engagement ring finger. I do fiddle with it as a habit but it's tight at the moment and doesn't come off easily. So-dh and I fall asleep in front of the telly (not uncommon) and when I wake up I'm aware the ring isn't there. I don't recall taking it off this evening but I'm absolutely bushed come the evening so I guess I could have. It's nowhere obvious and I need to go to sleep. What on earth do I do if I can't find it tomorrow? I would need to claim on insurance if I don't find it but I can't just say that I don't recall taking it off but suddenly it wasn't there, can I? And I face the prospect of sifting through all the rubbish in case it's fallen off somehow. I guess I'm posting because now I'm worried and won't sleep until I've parked this somewhere! I'm really hoping that with a bit of sleep I'll miraculously remember taking it off-which I never really do. God-I sound bizarre! Hey ho.

Do you know anyone with a metal detector so you don't have to sift through it?

Check the rubbish! I lost a gold chain once and made my husband climb into the communal bin at our flat and get the Hoover bag he'd chucked in there earlier that day. We shredded right through the bag and found the chain, which my husband had somehow vacuumed up from my bedside table. Plus we were both quite pissed! proud

I don't-but good idea. I just hope it'll be so obvious in the morning.

Check your pockets. Sounds mental but DH "lost" his wedding ring - and it turned up in his pocket. He put his hand in his pocket whilst sat down and as the pocket was tight it pulled his ring off when he pulled his hand out.

He didn't feel a thing - or if he did he assumed it was the pocket being tight and pulling on his skin rather than his ring.

(Is it just me or is this reading like a Carry On script?)

Also have you worked your way retraced your steps around the house going back over everything you've done since you came home?

Hope you find it - and I'd be going through the bins Confused.

I would be going through the rubbish. It isn't too bad. Just stick a pair of rubber gloves on and move the rubbish bit by bit into a fresh bin bag. I hope you find it love!

I'll have to - even if I found nothing it would be better than thinking it had gone off to the tip. This has happened similarly before- with rubbish sifting and all Blush but I used to take it off then. After that I figured safer to wear it all the time. I'd reported it missing to the insurance last time then found it very soon after that. Perhaps that's the answer.

I just hope I had it in the house this evening. Sleep deprivation is sending me slowly mad and scatty Confused

Did you fall asleep on the sofa?

Is it just under or down the side?

When I lost mine it had been knocked off the bedside table.

There was stuff on the floorBlush that I sifted through to no avail.

When I looked through the pile of books individually-it fell out of one of the books!!

Not between-actually in oneConfused

Previous to this I had searched rubbish, hoover bag...

Even though I knew it must be near the bedside table!

I've done the basic look by the sofa but need to look inside it with a torch because there's a gap. Also, should I get dd X-ray ed (only half joking).

"Also, should I get dd X-ray ed (only half joking)"

Nah-just run a metal detector over her!!

How old is she?

Keep an eye on nappies??!!

Do you dress/undress her-might it be caught in clothes?

Washing machine/filter?

Yes-fell asleep on sofa. Have taken it apart as far as I can without it being irrevocable. Had a good hoover, then examined contents of bag. Just gone over car. But now need to do some putting back as dd has friend over after school and need sanity to remain intact. Talked to nice man at insurance and he said its fine to put in a claim and cancel if I find it. If I have made a really good effort in every room of the house, gone over the car, asked everywhere I went yesterday and examined dd2's nappies then I will admit defeat and claim. At which, no doubt, it will reappear, looking smug and acting as I'd nothing has happened Wink. Except it's a ring so we won't know it's doing it.

Have you done any laundry since you last noticed it there? Check the laundry piles/ baskets/anywhere where you were (for example) shaking cloths.

And yes - the inside of washing machine and drier if you have one.

Check the filter on the washing machine too, if you have a removable kick plate

Thank you all Smile have made a list. Looking at the groove on my finger where ring ought to be Sad but at least I had it to lose and at the end of all the searching I'll either be able to claim and have a tidy house or I'll have found it and have a tidy house Smile

If you don't find it don't give up hope.

My mum lost her engagement ring in 2001 and hunted for months before giving up. On Christmas day 2008 we were staying with her and DD was playing around. Suddenly she said "this is pretty mummy" and held out the ring to me. She was only just 3 and a bit hazy about where she found it but my mum was understandably delighted

That´s a long time, storm.

I realosed that I´d knocked my engagement ring off the bedside table-stupidly didn´t look straight away.

Didn´t hoover there though!

Then we were going out for our W/anniversary a couple of days later & I was so cross/upset at not finding to put on I nearly refused to go outBlush

I think the thing that's messing with my head is that for a ring that I never take off (except to check it still comes off Wink but then I put it on straight away) and that I don't recall taking off at all yesterday evening, I am shocked it's lost at all. If I didn't know that it made no sense at all, I'd say someone took it off my finger as I slept. And it's definitely too tight for that. Good to hear a happy ending about other rings Smile

I hope it turns up. I have myself taken a ring off and hours later am startled by noticing I've not got it on, forgetting where it's gone. Agree if it's a snug fit, even in a sleep deprived catch up snooze, it's unlikely you wouldn't notice somebody else removing it!

The only thing that struck me as I re-read your post was, has DH taken it to size for a new ring? but of course when you mentioned losing it he'd have reassured you.

Has DD1 suddenly developed an interest in playing with jewellery?
