AIBU?

To take another day off work?

I need a little perspective please, I'm rubbish at knowing what is reasonable with illness and absence.

I had three wisdom teeth out under general an aesthetic on Monday. The doctor said to take it day by day. I'm not feeling too bad today, but dosed up on pain killers, not able to eat a great deal and get very sore if I do much talking. My job involves more or less constant talking. I know I could cope but not do a great job and would probably feel crap after wards. If I take tomorrow off I won't have to work until Monday. But I feel like I've had too much time already.

I realise it is ridiculous to ask Mn, but I also have pnd and really struggle to see what is sensible sometimes.

So AIBU to have another sofa day to recover?

It doesn't sound like you are ready to go back to me from what you describe. I would take tomorrow off and concentrate on looking after yourself then review it on Monday morning.

I just typed a really long waffly message and have lost it!

Anyway, I think some people take a lot longer to recover from a GA, never mind the actual operation!

My DS1 had a 10 minute GA to remove a few baby teeth that wouldn't come out by themselves. He was the first (day case) in and was the last one to go home that evening! He just was groggy for days! He had it on a Friday just before half term but even if school had been on he wouldn't have gone back in until at least the Wednesday!

so let yourself off the hook, you need to recover!

YANBU

If you could sit in silence and type you could maybe muddle through but even then I don't think you'd be U to take the day off. If your job involves talking then definitely surf the sofa and get better.

YANBU I had 3 wisdom teeth out under GA when I worked on a hospital switchboard. I was told to take a week off by the Snr Reg. My boss thought 2 days would be enough! She couldn't really argue with one of the docs though.

You're not being unreasonable. I think tooth pain is one of the least bearable. I honestly think that the closer to your brain the pain is, the harder it is to ignore. I had my wisdom teeth out under local anaesthetic but needed a week off work and took codeine the whole week. I needed three weeks of when I had my tonsils removed (aged 28) - I've never felt so ill in my life. Yet I had a c-section and felt fine after a few days and had my gall bladder removed under GA and was off the pain killers after 4 days. Pain is totally subjective. If you don't feel up to it, you're best off staying home. Hope you feel better soon Smile

Used to be minimum 1 week, signed off. Stay home!

Thanks everyone. I shall take your advice and try hard not to feel guilty. It's certainly a relief to think of having another day at home.
