I worked for Austin Knight years ago when they put an advert in the times for Special Agents for a government body - you would not believe the fun we had for months reading the letters from weirdos wanting to be spys.

We had ones who already had worked for themselves (or dreamt they had) saying they knew all about the conspiracies going on and had proof of aliens and all sorts. The best ones were the ones that came on HMP paper - my did we save those up and get a nice big latte each to sup whilst we tried to compete for the best 'crazy' letter writer award of the week.

There were very few of the people who wrote the letters that we did not immediately write off as being completely MAD!!

I would hate the vetting aspect. DH does a job that required me to be vetted before we were married and I found it intrusive. (He's not 007 but works with classified info). I acknowledge that it is vital and that national security overrides my 'right' to privacy but honestly, I found the process wound me up - and that was just the bits I was required to do as his partner. There's no way I'd want to do something that required me to repeat the process! However, if you want to go for it then of course you should

The pay is nothing special either. I have been vetted, it is tedious, especially the money stuff. Hasten to add I do not work for MI6! or 5.

Joyful yeah DH asked me that too . I found it quite hard to articulate but I'll try to. In the main, I found (find?) the fact that I have no 'access' to his work life quite difficult - it's a huge part of his life and something that's very important to him, but I'm totally shut out from it. I was used to having a bit of a grumble/rant about work at the end of a day in previous relationships and it took me a while to get used to the fact that that doesn't happen.

Therefore, as I have no access to that part of his life, I was encrossened by having to answer personal questions about me. It felt like having the responsibilities but not the rights, IYSWIM? I'm probably not getting this across very well... apologies for that.

However, I got on with it. There wouldn't have been massive ramifications if I'd said "No, not doing it". All that would have happened would be that DH would be restricted to working with data that wasn't sensitive, but as I said, he loves his job, it's been his career for 27 years now, and I was damned if I was going to have that happen because I felt a bit precious about my privacy. Marriage being about compromise and all that

We had to re-do it all recently and poor DH was worried that I'd have another tantrum. Thankfully it was just updating it all. I was much less ranty the second time around.

I didn't find vetting too hard when I've had it done, I've also done it with DH when he applied for an unrelated job.

My cousin, who speaks persian and arabic, was approached by MI6 when he finished Uni.

He was so excited, he told all his friends and family.

The first question at interview 2 was " have you told anyone about this interview?" to answer yes was to have failed the interview!

He still feels annoyed wth himself for that...
