AIBU to expect a motorist to stop after he has taken my wing mirror off

Well they didn't stop and i'm feeling a bit cheesed off tbh.i was just wondering what over people would have done and whether they would have knocked on a few houses to find out who the car belonged to and own up.

I would have hoped they would but in my experience (living on a rat run), people don't bother. almost all if us have suffered damage to our cars.

We have had a quote for £2k for a dent that someone made in our car - before driving off. There is NO WAY they wouldn't have known about the damage as it is an enormous dent in a rear panel. Annoyingly one of my neighbours heard the impact but the car drove off too fast for her to get any details.

Nobody stops any more.

While parked I've had my front corner stoves in, smashed lights the lot and no one stopped.

In supermarket car park a massive dent down the side and they didn't stop.

Last week someone I know saw a near head on collision. The car at fault managed to swerve to the side to avoid a full head on but still took the side of the other car off and they kept going!!!!

People should stop, it's bad that they don't. They've done something, they should put their hands up and admit it.

Yes they should have stopped but people are often to selfish to do that.

A loud bang might not have been heard inside the car if music was loud.

I've had that done to me. I was so pissed off as I was trying to sell the car.

Also, DP's car got rammed on the tailgate by shopping trolleys in an Asda car park. On neither occasion was it reported. We want to sell this car too :-(

I did this some years back. It was near a bus stop, and I puled up and asked if anyone knew whose car it was, and was pointed to a house. I gave the man £100, and he was quite happy, and my guilt was assuaged.

Happened to me last week, we were in the car and a small truck drove past far to fast and hit us. Huge noise, mirror and casing smashed, £450 damage. The truck had the name of the builders down it, he kept on driving, couldn't have missed the noise.

It is only just above the excess so no point getting it fixed on insurance. I;m assuming that a man who drives off when you are in the car isn't going to pay up without going to court.

I scraped a car coming out of my DD's nursery many years ago, tiny passageway, pitch black, total accident.

I went into the nursery and asked if they knew who the car belonged to and gave them my phone number to give to her.

She was very nice and we paid to have it repaired. It's the right thing to do, definitely should have stopped! YANBU!

I did this in the summer, clipped another car's wing-mirror - mine flipped up into the fold-in position but the outer plastic shell had pinged off. I couldn't stop right there and then because of traffic so pulled in to the next possible place I could. By this time the owner was thundering towards me with my bit of car and held it hostage until I handed over the cash - which of course I was willing to do anyway - scared the shit out of me though.

I guess he'd had it happen to his car a few times judging by his demeanour.

Maybe they were scared that there might be a confrontation. They should have left a note though.

I caught a car in Tesco car park a could of months back, I was mortified. I left a note but was tempted not to just because I was scared- it could have been anyones car.
I waited about 2 hours and got the call and the guy was lovely, said he was phoning to say thank you for leaving the note and not to worry about the mark in his car.

My car was parked at the end of my street. It was pulled by the bumper into the road forming a t junction with my street. Fortunately for me the house opposite was an electronics company with CCTV. They looked and it was their milkman. They gave me the details and dairy crest did sort it out. There was no way he couldn't have known as he dragged the car about 5 metres and left it partly blocking the road. I did explain that I was concerned that he had illegally left the scene of an accident but no one seemed bothered.

I've done it (bash & forgot to confess, or couldn't find the car again to put a note on it). Typically because I was in a rush to get to school & didn't have paper & pen on me, anyway. After that I either forgot or couldn't find the car that was hit. Both times I was a pedestrian, by the way. Buggy & child on bike did the bashing. I'm still looking for the car that the bike scratched a month or more ago.

Oh. I did this. Parked down the road to calm down for five minutes as it was a shock, got out to find the car and it had gone! I felt awful!
