Of course I'm being unreasonable...this has been done to death, but this has hacked me off.

'Spick & Span' Cleaning Trolley in the catalogue of Great Little Trading Company is accompanied with the description, 'Kids love mimicking Mummy - turn it into positive play with our toy cleaning set'.

It's a boy in the picture which I suppose is meant to lend balance!

YANBU - it's this sort of insidious crap that builds up to the bigger picture. The child being male doesn't really help, it's still explicitly stated that its 'mummy' who does the cleaning because that's her role/job/calling. Grrr.

Does your DH clean? Mine does minimal cleaning but lots of cooking - DS is more likely to mimic me with a mini-dustpan and brush but mimic DH with a mini kitchen.

IMHO it's your dc mimicking YOU rather than who the toy shops dictate they should be copying.

The pink/blue section in toy shops and clothes shops pisses me off more, but I'm not a pink/blue person and don't buy that kind of stuff for my DS or nieces/nephews/friends' dc's. Hth?!

Yeah, but baby goats love mimicing the non gender specific care provider doesnt have the same ring to it really.

DH does as much cleaning as I do. We both work full time in similar jobs, so it's pretty much 50:50.

In the real world, much as it will pain plenty of you, women and more specifically mothers, DO do the majority of housework, because they are the ones more likely to be at home with a toddler during the day...

get over it..

Yeah - because sexism exists we should just shut up and accept it! Er, no.
