My mum never wants any gifts for herself, but out of the blue she has thought of something she actually wants. Usually she wants nothing and only cares about what to give the rest of us. So please help me find her a "bag that goes with navy, brown and black". These are the colours she normally wears.

She has requested a leather bag but not a terribly expensive brand. I think she'd like a colour like burgundy or oxblood.

Any pointers very welcome and appreciated!

What about a cream/beige or tan bag? My DGM was really pleased when I got her a cream handbag for xmas a few years ago - she said she was after a replacement for her summer handbag and I saved her the trouble of shopping for one.

Do you have a leather goods shop locally? They're usually good for good value & quality products?

Thanks clpsmum I'll have a look at that Next link now.

Enfyshedd, thanks for replying. We don't have a leather shop locally unfortunately. I think she'd prefer a dark shade of red but if I can't find that then your suggestion of beige/tan will be next on my list!

I really would like to come up trumps because she NEVER wants something for herself so this is a rare opportunity to repay her kindness

Thanks again :)

I love this website.

The link is for a red satchel, but they do different colours and sizes.

Hope this helps.

Tan M&S bag

I have a version of this (they changed the design slightly). It is a really practical size, and I get complimented on it a lot. I never cnsidered a tan bag before but it goes with lots of things and is not too smart, not too casual

The red looks nice too

Honestly, it's the best bag I've had

Crackednipples and Jamie, thanks both of you, both of those bags are gorgeous. Mum might consider the satchel bag to be too youthful for her, perhaps a Christmas present for me? Grin

Tan / taupe / red or a mustardy yellow would definitely go with that colour range. Not sure of your price point, but would any of these do?

tan Oasis shoulder bad
Osprey - not exactly inexpensive though

red

dark brown croc

Finding a dark red in a non-fabric, nice design and not hideously expensive price is a bit challenging - your DM obviously has good taste!

Thanks for the Amazon tip Hattie, I hadn't thought of trying that!

Moonloght, those links are great, thanks so much for your help :)

Radley have some gorgeous leather bags in shades of tan, burgundy, red. If you can pick them up in the sale you can get some bargains. I bought one 3 years ago in the sale and it still looks brand new. They have some nice ones here - not sure of your price range but these last and last

Thanks Ninja, Ideally I'd like something in the fifty pounds range but I realise I may have to be more flexible than that. I'll check out those radley ones, thanks again!

I appreciate this bag is not leather so you may well dismiss it out of hand ( see what I did there ? Grin but i bought it for myself ( I am 60 ) and I love it. HERE I took the silly little tag off the front by the way.

I would add a sggestion to look at the TK Maxx website. Their bags are so reasonably priced for what you get in some cases. They have proper designer bags. I got a Jane Shilton one the other day for £20.

For Radley see if there is a Tula outlet shop near you. My inlaws wanted to get their 16 year old granddaughter a nice handbag that would last. For £20. Our faces fell at the challenge ahead. But knowing we have one about an hour from us we drove over, walked in and just asked. 5 minutes later we walked out with a navy, leather handbag for £20 dead on, original price tag £90 odd!! They were having a 50% with an 20% off day. Which they seem to have quite frequently.

I've had two purple handbags in the past, and what really surprised me was that the colour seemed to go quite well with everything. I tried to create the same effect by buying a gold one, but that didn't work.

Where abouts do you live? I only ask as there's a fab leather workshop in swanley Kent (that may not be very well known) and for rarely bags the MacArthur Glenn outlet place in ashford, Kent sells radley bags cheaper than usual.
