I am in the need of some serious cheering up. I have just discovered at my local cinema, films start at 11ish. I have free time between then and school pick up one day next week.

Mmmm, I get to choose pic'n''mix I like and eat it all myself. I hadn't Ben thought about that. That's it I'm definitely doing it.

going to the cinema alone is one of my great pleasures.

I am near one of those trendy, independent ones where they let you take a glass of wine to your seat....even if it is only 11.30am

Lots of pick a mix and diet coke!

Eggrules Wed 14-Nov-12 10:45:50

I am going at 11ish, I am hoping that there will be few people to disturb. They will be general release films that my Oh does not want to see.

Fluffy - what are your meal plans?

Fluffy1234 Wed 14-Nov-12 10:23:35

I am doing the Twilathon tomorrow and watching all five movies in a row..on my own.. At the cinema..Beat that!

LOVE IT. And if you go on Thurs or Friday you might get a free biscuit & cuppa with the pensioners (Odeon) :-)

OH I see that you are going to be eating popcorn! now YABU!!

I can not abide cinema munchers!!! grin unless you are going to the Vue or similar and watching a general release film

winterhill Wed 14-Nov-12 10:10:48

I have ben going to the cinema by myself since I was 14 - i am 47 now.

Usually if there is an independent film or art house one on that I fancy I usually ask DH and put a group text out to mates and if no one takes me up on it I go off by myself.

Sorry Metcalfes salt and sweet popcorn

Eggrules Wed 14-Nov-12 09:47:46

I'm going to take my fave [[ Metcalfes salt and sweet popcorn. The troughs at the cinema are too £££ and too big (though I can munch through them) .

AngryBeaver - you have moxie. I'm going in my own clothes this time.

AngryBeaver Wed 14-Nov-12 07:20:58

I went to the cinema on my own dressed as a clown.

I went to college in the 70s. Looked forward to meeting new people but almost everyone had come with a pal from school, the others were living at home confused. ( it was a small class and all women).

Of course YANBU smile Go for it!

I was scared the first time I went on my own. Not sure what of though. I got my ore booked ticket and bought myself a hot chocolate and popcorn. Ended up being just me, two other singles and a couple in the screen. Was fab!

I love going to the cinema on my own. It is my secret post night shift indugence.

I also like rainy sunday afternoon double bills in the local arthouse place.

You meed minstrels though.

showtunesgirl Tue 13-Nov-12 22:28:58

I can't because I'll out myself!

All those who haven't gone to the pics by themselves, can I ask what exactly is it you're scared of?

Eggrules Tue 13-Nov-12 22:00:17

Hmmmm, maybe I should make this a regular thing? I'm going next week.

Show tunes, care to expand?

Red, I'm going too try to fit Skyfall in this week and Breaking Dawn next.

RedZombie Tue 13-Nov-12 21:40:29

I've never been on my own before. I almost did for that Zac Efron film earlier this year but When I had a free afternoon, it wasnt on. I'm dying to see the new Bradley Cooper film because I loved the Book and I know I'll never get DH to come with me. This time I'm doing it.

I also love eating out alone.

I find going to the cinema such an odd way to in the foyer, don't talk for two hours, say goodbye. Hence it being perfect for early date activity.

rempy Tue 13-Nov-12 21:21:15

Go. It's marvellous. I did it last week for the first time in years.

somewherewest Tue 13-Nov-12 21:20:07

This thread is such a bloody relief. I'm dying to see Skyfall but currently have no one to go with (just moved to a new town where we know no one and only person available to mind DS is DH).

EllenParsons Tue 13-Nov-12 21:19:47

I have been to the cinema on my own before - no problem with it. I would usually do it for more unusual films which were more my own specific interest than my friends eg i remember going to a lot of Korean films alone a few years ago! That was in an art house cinema where loads of people were on their own but I have also done it in mainstream Cinemas and found that fine too.

showtunesgirl Tue 13-Nov-12 21:10:52

The next time I'm going to a cinema, it WILL be a private screening and I'm in the film. <preens>

But I only say one line. grin
