AIBU to be a bit annoyed by the both the Morrisons and Asda xmas ads?

to me, the message of these ads appear to be that Mum is expected to do everything. Now, I am a relatively new, full time working mum - and this is exactly how it is panning out in my home. I do the vast majority of housework etc. as well as a full time job and anticipate in the run up to christmas this will be no different (as I am sure is the same for many mums).

However, when I saw these ads, particularly the Asda one, I was quite irate. It is somehow confirming that we should be happy and accepting of this situation. Especially at the end, after all the hard work, the mums are so smiley and accepting. Sorry - but if DH asks 'what are we having for tea?' the first instant i get to sit down on xmas day, he will get left over turkey over his head instead of a whimsicle smile.

They are irritating. However, if you're being out upon, YABU not to go something about it! Give your DH a wake up call, men won't melt if they do Christmas planning or housework. My DH is cooking Christmas dinner this year because I'm working a night shift Xmas eve into Xmas day and plan on crashing out after the kids demolish the present pile. I'm not even nervous. I swear.

a) it is generally the women of the family that do the shopping and xmas preparing

b) do you really look to adverts for supermarkets to tell you how you should be feeling about anything?
Its an advert, trying to sell you shit. Why would they have a cross woman moping about in Asda with a snotty toddler, a wild school kid, and biro on her face?

I don't live near an Asda so my boycott is theorectical more than anything. I do live near a Morrisons however and will be boycotting them for a while. Which is a shame as I love their cheese puffs.

I'm so irritated by them I'll even give up my cheese puffs!

The woman in the morrisons ad looks so miserable and ground down by life it actually puts me off going to morrisons if that's the effect it has .

I think there is thousands of mums/wives who moan and groan about being put upon then want to do Christmas all by themselves because nobody will ldo it right that is reflected in the advert imo, maybe if some women didnt want to do it all and delegate maybe adverts would reflect that, what pisses me off with the Asda one is she doesnt even get a seat she sits on a pouffee thing mummy martyr to the end if you ask me

Those adverts have backfired badly imho.

They make christmas look like a thankless, exhausting round of chores where no one will help you (let alone your partner) and no one thanks you.

in the Asda one no one even looks at the woman... it's like she's a true slave!

Why anyone would find that comforting or inspiring I don't know. And if your family treats you like that there's something very very wrong indeed.

I really don't think 'most' women want to be martyrs... I have NEVER met a woman who wants to do it all and be ignored. But I think advertisers want them to be martyrs. God knows why; it hardly increases their profits to address their customers as ignored drudges.

I had a weird moment actually last night-Asda ad followed by an ad with a (beautiful) besuited businesswoman without a chore in sight.

i don't think advertisers can make up their minds whether they want women slaving away in the kitchen or in the office earning more money so they can sell them the stuff they sell men, as well as food and beauty products.

The Asda one pisses me right off. I'm considering writing to them actually. Mothers should not be martyrs. Like it's so great that she doesn't even get a proper chair to sit on and no help cooking.

I haven't seen the morrisons advert but I saw the Asda one for the first time today, and was quite shocked by it aswell! Normally it is the family running around not the mum i did think It was wrong but then again it could portray what a mum does to get things ready or Xmas every year and is never appreciated for it! Maybe this year there will be some dh/dp sat looking at the wonderful feast/ decorations and remember who went to all the effort for it

Taht's the thing piglett,the Asda ad is like some godawful dystopian future christmas in a world where women have lost the vote and the right to employment outside the home :D it doesn't actually represent any form of reality, so who on earth do they think it is appealing to?

I saw the morrisons one last night I thought it was really funny especially turkey wrestiling , there are christmas martyrs around you can read threads about it, I do think the asda 1 is a but exaggerated though , and i hate how the mum was on the pouffee ( i cant let that go )

Morrisons woman looks so bloody haggard and glum!

It is concerning that two big chains have decided to go with the 'mum does everything at Christmas and wouldn't have it any other way' line. Worrying to think what this means about where we are right now.
