Posting here for a quick answer as there is more traffic.

My mum is 46, she is slim, 5ft 9/10 and a size 10, she thinks she can't wear skinny jeans because of her age.

I think she can. I've seen girls less than half her age squeeze into them and look horrible. IMO it's not your age as long as they're plain denim, let's not get fancy now but it's how you look in general and they suit some people better than others.

Back me up here smile

'can she wear them?'
Why the F**k does she need anyone's permission even if she's a size 30!

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack Mon 12-Nov-12 14:09:11

Course she can!! I am 41 and love my skinnies!!

MolotovBomb Mon 12-Nov-12 14:09:16

Yes, she can still wear skinnies!

Depends on her style and whether she looks the 'type' to wear them.

My colleage - 64yo, size 8-10, about 5'7" tall - wears them and they suit her. She looks great, so yes, it's not age: it's style.

Because she feels like she's too old to wear them, silly, I know.

MrsCantSayAnything Mon 12-Nov-12 14:14:34

course she can, they're not overtly mutton or anythng. I am 40 and wear them...I put them with a bum skimming top and a gilet and boots. I am a size 12.

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans Mon 12-Nov-12 14:14:41

I'm 39 and I live in skinny jeans. Of course she can!

Yes, she can tell her mumsnet said so.

I told her I'd get the MN seal of approval. She's never looked at the site, but it's quickly becoming the family judge , jury and executioner wink

AlwaysHoldingOnToStarbug Mon 12-Nov-12 14:21:29

I wear them and I have a fat arse and huge thighs. I don't care, I like them. And I'm 36.

She is not too old!

snickers251 Mon 12-Nov-12 14:29:13

My mums 51 and lives in them!

FeuDeRussie Mon 12-Nov-12 14:29:58

Yes she can, if she wants to! And it sounds like she'll look fantastic them.

somuchslimmernow Mon 12-Nov-12 14:30:50

I am 50 and recently lost 3 stone and am now a size 8..I am wearing skinny jeans now and think they as good on me as someone 30 years younger (who may not even be as small as me)

Hammy02 Mon 12-Nov-12 14:33:16

Course she can. My mum is in her 60's and still wears a bikini when abroad on holiday and she looks great. (If Helen Mirren can, then why not!). This cropped up in conversation and someone called her a floosy! Cheeky cow.

My mum is 59 next month and wears (and rocks) skinny jeans. She's got skinny legs to match the skinny jeans. I on the otherhand would look very silly in them.

Alisvolatpropiis Mon 12-Nov-12 14:57:22

Of course she can!

My mum is 63 and wears them and looks fab. What's age got to do with it?! If they look good wear them!

LRDtheFeministDragon Mon 12-Nov-12 18:08:59

I'm with everyone saying anyone adult can wear what the heck they like! But more power to her, I'm 28 and I can't wear them as I look an idiot. So I don't think it's an age-related thing, much more to do with your body proportions and how they sit on you.

sittinginthesun Mon 12-Nov-12 18:10:58

46? I thought you were going to say 70! The answer is still the same - yes, of course she can.

goingupinsmoke Mon 12-Nov-12 18:10:59

Agree with everyone above I'm on the short side and really shouldn't wear them, my friend who is 46 on the other hand looks FAB in hers.

typicalvirgo Mon 12-Nov-12 18:13:47

Age is irrelevant.

Suitability is altogether a different matter.

LittleMissFlustered Mon 12-Nov-12 19:14:21

I'm 32 but as fat as a weeble so avoid them like the plaguegrin As has been said, if she's got the legs for it she shouldn't be too concernedsmile

mrscynical Mon 12-Nov-12 19:17:47

Well I'm 50 and wear leather jeans. I love them and couldn't care less what people think. They are particularly good in the cold weather and people think I'm a bit kinky! All good really.
