Grin at your carpets!

yes, i agree.
but at this time of year, everyone gets very serious about it.
if they'd done that in may, no one would have noticed

Not sure, it's all freedom of speech versus responsibility not to be an arse.

I wouldn't buy those carpets though - the photo don't show them properly!

I agree this Facebook stuff has gone too far. We need free speech.

I would not support burning a poppy at a Remembrance event though. Or maybe it would be OK as long as the police stood back and let the general public dish out their own punishment.

Good luck with the carpet too.

yes, but surely poppy day is a non-mandatory celebration of the fallen, if you want to be offensive about it you have a right to do that.

otherwise, if they were fighting for freedom and civil liberties, kind of defeating the point?

If we had to lock people up for being twats, the houses of parliament would be a lot quieter...

I agree, it is worrying how things are going. Are we following the 'putin guide to running a country'? There has always been controversy around the poppy anyway, used to be white poppies as an alternative and 25 years ago there was a kerfuffle over someone laying a white poppy wreath (was in the 25 years ago part of the paper). I feel similarly about that facebook page about soldiers.

Did post on face ache under his own name or was he tracked down?

The problem with social media sites is that anyone can broadcast anything the like to the nation without showing their face. It's never going to be 100% anonymous, but most of the twats who go out of their way to offend to abuse can't quite get their little brains around that fact.

He has the right to be offensive but cant he do it in the privacy of his own home and without broadcasting it on Facebook. Im not sure any person in their right mind would find this appropriate behaviour based on all our poor soliders being killed right now. Very odd behaviour if you ask me

Alas the is no anti-drunk or -twat key on social media. He probably just did it to be offensive rather than try to make any political or social statement.

just broke my computer, bugger.

saw your post on the other thread catgirl, very moving.

i agree the internet is public space too - but i think what is rough political comments - e.g. flag burning, poppy burning - should be allowed.

by arresting him, his twattery got more airtime than it would otherwise too, so self-defeating.

Yabu. If he had burned a symbol of another culture he would be in shit. He deserved to be arrested.

I think everyone should get less offended about symbolic gestures - as long as you own the piece of paper or fabric that you are burning then it's ok.

Obviously I appreciate that the sentient is hurtful to lots of people and the fact that such acts provoke such out cry shows that this does impact people on a very deep level but if the world shrugged back in response their message would get nowhere.

OFGS! I thought he'd turned up at a ceremony and caused a real life disturbance.

Don't the police have anything better to do or say when people phone them with their knickers in a twist about someone being silly on Facebook?
