An ex colleague wrote a status about Ed Sheeran. I commented with "he makes my teeth itch". He says "don't get it?" I reply with "grips my shit?" He says "nope, still don't get it, try talking white for a change" shock

For the record as its relevant I'm mixed race.

How the FRIG is that an ok thing to say??

Needless to say I replied with "nice... Deleted".

And deleted the ignorant twat!

It's always great to offload big pieces of shit every so often.

SoleSource Sun 11-Nov-12 20:59:48

I wouldn't have got your silly replies either. Are you 12?

McChristmasPants2012 Sun 11-Nov-12 21:01:09

I don't get makes my teeth itch, as teeth don't get itchy.

AnyFucker Sun 11-Nov-12 21:01:33

You have never heard "makes my teeth itch", SS?

PelvicFloorClenchReminder Sun 11-Nov-12 21:01:57

Good riddance to him.

Tuppenyrice Sun 11-Nov-12 21:03:47

You're well rid.

threesocksmorgan Sun 11-Nov-12 21:05:07

well I don't get your second comment.
but you are well rid

mockeveryweek Sun 11-Nov-12 21:06:10

Even if somebody didn't understand the reply, there's no excuse for making a racist remark.

You're well rid OP.

BadgersBottom Sun 11-Nov-12 21:07:09

Are some of you pretending to be thick on purpose? 'Makes my teeth itch' - although utterly nonsensical is hardly a new saying is it? Even my mum's heard of it and she's gone 80.

addictedismoving Sun 11-Nov-12 21:07:25

I wouldnt have understood the second comment, but his comment was completely unreasonable. Well rid.

Rachog Sun 11-Nov-12 21:07:27

You were right to delete him but I hate the teeth itch comment!

Sunnywithachanceofshowers Sun 11-Nov-12 21:08:21

YADNBU. What a cow.

lovelyladuree Sun 11-Nov-12 21:08:38

I like Ed Sheeran. Us gingers need to stick together. OP your ex-colleague sounds like a knob, however weird you speak wink

BreakfastwithMrsBarderbedian Sun 11-Nov-12 21:09:07

Yanbu. He knew full well what you meant he was being an awkward shite for the sake of it.

IneedAgoldenNickname Sun 11-Nov-12 21:10:33

I've only heard/seen makes my teeth itch on MN

No excuse for racist comments though

InNeedOfBrandy Sun 11-Nov-12 21:12:16

You were right to delete him the ignorant racist twat. The teeth itch comment is on here all the fucking time to it is not a "black" comment more a middle white class comment it anything.

ShipwreckedAndComatose Sun 11-Nov-12 21:15:23

I've deleted someone for making really sick jokes about current issues in the news.

Liberating, isn't it!! grin

Btw can't believe some posters have focused on the comments rather than the racism confused

HullyEastergully Sun 11-Nov-12 21:16:07

Who is Ed Sheeran?

peppercold Sun 11-Nov-12 21:17:56

I'm 40 next week and heard both sayings years ago!

But like a lot of replies say, no excuse for that comment. Makes me a little sad as I used to get on with him at work.

MamaMumra Sun 11-Nov-12 21:20:39

He is an ignorant twat and YWNBU.

peppercold Sun 11-Nov-12 22:09:02

Ive just been told it was a joke and to stop "being daft"

BattlingFanjos Sun 11-Nov-12 22:39:24

Ignorant twat he is! YANBU!

However, YABU about Ed Sheeran, he's lurvely! How very dare you?! ;)

yellowsubmarine53 Sun 11-Nov-12 22:46:59

The problem with e-mail is that it may have been a 'joke' (not a funny one, I grant you, but a joke) but you don't have someone's non-verbal signals to get a sense of their intention.

Can you imagine him saying this in a 'joking' way or is he actually just a idiot?

Alisvolatpropiis Sun 11-Nov-12 23:01:47

Yanbu about Ed Sheeran. Massively overrated, boring and twee.

YANBU to delete that bloke either. Before joining MN I had never heard the phrases "makes my teeth itch" or "grips my shit". It doesn't exactly take a rocket scientist to work out what is meant. It does take a racist prick to say "trying talking white for a change". I bet other people would have been shocked by that comment, people who can see his Facebook I mean.

WTAF does "talking white" even mean? It's one thing saying "and in English?" It's another to make a blatantly racist remark.
