My Parents and my Husband don't like each other

My parents have never really had much to do with me, my husband or my 2 kids (son of 12 and daughter of almost 9). My husband and my sister's husband can't stand the sight of each other. It all started over football teams and has now escalated to the point where they don't like each other. At my younger sister's 18th birthday my sister's husband told my husband to shut-up when he went to say something on football. My family (apart from my dad) and my sister's husband support one team while my husband supports another team. Despite what happened he was going round for dinner but now he wont go because when my sister's husbands makes fun of my husband's team everyone laughs and my mum joins in while if my husband says something they don't like it. Now though not even my sister's husband will go to my parents to eat when we are there.

My parents are refusing to come round to our house as well now because they don't like my husband and have told me that they will not be coming round for our children's birthdays either. They also told me that they don't want any presents for Birthdays or Christmas from us either.

How the actual fuck do some people get that wound up over a bloody game?

You parents are missing out on you and their DGC.
What utter prats.

I'm sorry for you Sad

And this is why I hate football- quite a few fans (not all) take it far too seriously. It's one thing to be passionate about a team but to fall out over it? Honestly, it's childish from all counts. I really think you need to bang their heads together. Sorry I can't be more helpful OP

Is this something to do with the old firm?

But this isn't really a football thing, it's a basic 'being a grown up' thing.

If these attitudes are that entrenched, then there is little you can do apart from remove yourself from a bunch of tossers.

You are better off without people like that in your life anyway. It sounds like your husband has a very valid reason not to like your family.

Um, your family are nut jobs.

This is just so sad. Because of football your children will not see their GP, aunts, uncles and cousins.......

Are your in laws around and part of your lives?

TidyDancer · 10/11/2012 18:07

Omg seriously?

They're all behaving like stupid children.

Tell them all to get to fuck.

Put them all in a dinghy without any oars and push them off into the Atlantic. Let them discuss their differences to their heart's content.

Could not be doing with all that wankery.

I can only assume that your parents' feelings towards your husband have much deeper roots and the whole football thing was simply an outlet.
My family don't like my husband and it wasn't difficult to decide who my loyalties lie with. They wanted to include me and the children in family occasions, but not him. To me that was inconceivable, so they had to miss out on their DGC. It's a real shame, as my DC had to miss out on their GPs, but I wouldn't under any circumstances have them receive any degrading comments about their father.

Stay well away, they obviously have no idea what respect is and you're all better off without them

This seriously fucked up. Do they have any idea how mad normal people would think they are? Please print this thread out and send it to them all.

Are you sure it's just the football that started this? They are cutting you off because of football?

Football. Don't you just love it?

For the actual love of God, tell them to get a fucking grip.

Well on the bright side, Christmas will be a lot cheaper! Seriously, fuck them off [make sure that they know that you are fucking them off and why] sit back and love your husband and kids.Your kids are not missing out on having contact with cunts like these.Just make sure you don't get soft soaped in to having contact with them ever again,so you will have to make sure that this is absolutely what you want to do.There will be no turning back.

The issue could be anything - could be anything, like one person thinking Margaret Thatcher was the greatest PM ever and the other thinking she irreperably fucked up the country.

The problem is people being too up their own arses to shut the fuck up about it for a couple of hours.

my sister's husbands makes fun of my husband's team everyone laughs and my mum joins in

This ^^ is childish and unacceptable.

People complain that religion is responsible for all the ills in the world, but it's just not true.

Human nature means that numpties people will find any old shite to fall out with each other over, right? Hmm

I've always suspected that football fans are one of the most illogical, irrational needing-of-a-giant-grip groups of people out there, but this takes the Biscuit

Are they all 12? All over football or more to it?
