If they didn't have an emergency then YANBU. I would be very annoyed.

We had the opposite. Someone who hadn't RSVP'd and her DD has various allergies. She was extremely pissedoff we hadn't catered for them. I was livid.

YANBU, unless they had an emergency. And if they had, they really should contact you and apologise, although that might not be possible straight away.

I would hold tight and see if they do get in touch to explain in the next few days.

I would assume there had been an emergency and something.

It's possible there was an emergency. I'm sure someone will eat their food though won't they, so it won't go to waste?

How specialist was the diet requirements?

If it was that specialist I would ask the guest to provide their own food to be sure they were happy with it.
