Whether you got your child vaccinated or not, you should try to remember:
what vaccinations they had (if any)
what diseases they had

Because 4 year olds do not, when they are grown up, remember having had chicken pox. Not reliably anyway.

She didn't get me vaccinated for whooping cough because she was worried I'd get brain damage, as that was what was in the papers at the time.

I know this as she told me I had had whooping cough as a child. But this apparently does not guarantee immunity. So when I went for my smear I mentioned this. They said I should probably have it and any other vacs I've missed. I said just whooping cough.

However, the fact that I have had measles, and mumps indicate I may not have had more than one jab.

I have called my mother - who has informed me I had some jabs as a tiny baby but she can't remember which ones "as it was like 34 years ago".

So I was possibly diptheriaed and polio'd. And I know, as I did it, that I am tetnused.

"Oh and by the way the doctor assumed you had whooping cough, rather than test for it as you weren't vaccinated, but it may have been bronchitis. He did't test as treatment was the same fo both"

So now I a waiting to discover what innoculations I need.

you would have got diptheria and polio booster at school probably high school or when you were 4 you get boosters before school did she not take you for those, whooping cough is on the way back probably because 34 yrs ago mothers read about brain damage and vaccine

MMR wasn't introduced until 1988, many of us would have had both infections as a child. There was a big whooping cough vaccine scare so plenty of us didn't get that either...

And a gingerbread man. DH took baby DS for his 3rd set of jabs as I'd gone back to work by then and had done the first 2 sets. Daddy bought DS a gingerbread man to help him get over it all, which he kindly crumbled all over the car.......

Honestly, my mother is the ultimate arse.

My name is incorrectly spelled on my Birth Certificate. This was not picked up on until I pointed out to them at around age 8.

She fully vaccinated my oldest brother, and left me to fend for myself.

She had my oldest brother christened, and not me. I have to go to the firey pits of hell.

When my paeditrician was arrested and imprisoned they told me he had died so I didn't have to worry. He has been in the news intermittently since then, and regularly as he is linked in with the JS investigations. he is very very much alive.


I think I am a shining example of why you should not make snap decisions and think things through.

From now on I am putting ALL major life decisions through Mumsnet and printing the results so my dc's know I went with the majority, and not some insane airy fairyiness of my own making.

I think a surprisingly large proportion of kids born late 70s/early 80s have never had a whooping cough jab, and none of us would have had mumps.

I had a whooping cough jab last week. The nurse was vicious. She sort of waggled the needle around once it was inside my arm and it hurt for days

If I had been vaccinated for measles and rubella that would mean I shouldnt have had measles though

Bet you did have them. Babies not given the triple (DTP - diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis) were usually given the double (DT - dip,tet) instead, and the polio would have been a drop at the same time.

I've thought of how the NHS could save some money.

If parents don't immunise / vaccinate their children and the children catch the diseases through the parents' fault, the NHS could charge a fee to cure them.

No such thing as 100% protection though. I had measles aged 4 and I def had the jab as a baby.
