Why do some drivers think its ok, to stop and sit there waiting and holding up all the traffic til the lights turn red again just because they are in the wrong lane?
AIBU to think if u get in the wrong lane and u can't immediately get out of it, u should commit to it and find somewhere to turn round where u aren't in everyone's way?

And get hopelessly lost in a strange city?

It happens. The people in the lane they were trying to get in should have just let them in.

Yabu.

Nobody's perfect and everyone makes mistakes sometimes. Is it really that hard to let someone who has clearly made a mistake not the right lane? Also, in traffic it can be very hard to know which is the right lane if the only signs are road markings.

Unless someone is being particularly rude by trying to cut in then I'd assume that they aren't sure where they are going and I would let them in, we've all done it.

YABU

What's wrong with someone being sensible and letting them in to avoid holding up the traffic?

Ridiculous.

YANBU.
Especially if you are in a Turn R only lane and deliberately zoomed down to the front in order to push in at the front of the 'straight ahead' lane.

But it depends on circumstances.

'U' ABU. It happens to all of us at some point, driving somewhere we don't know. Most considerate drivers let people in who are obviously in the wrong lane. I always try to and am grateful when people let me in rather than force me to go elsewhere. A lorry flashed to let me change lanes yesterday which was very kind.

SoupDragon · 09/11/2012 13:50

You are unreasonable purely because of your use of "u" instead of you. Are you 12?

Couldn't be arsed to read the rest as it was probably pointless.

YABU, what if the wrong lane ended up in a motorway and the only chance to turn around is miles away. Have you never ended up in the wrong lane by mistake OP driving somewhere you don't know?

Unless they are taking the piss and in the wrong lane to try and skip the queue then people should be sympathetic enough to let drivers in the wrong lane in.

YADBU

Everyone makes mistakes as junctions are sometimes badly marked or signposted. For example you can end up in a right-hand only turn lane at traffic lights if the traffic is so heavy that you can't see the arrow marks on the road until it's too late. Let them in, FFS.

If everyone was considerate of other road users, then there'd be a damn sight fewer accidents.

YABU. People make mistakes, especially in places they're not familiar with, and it would be nice for others to let them in wouldn't it.

YABU everyone makes the odd mistake evey now and then, like mis-spelling the word 'you' Confused

YABU I'm afraid!

People may be in an unfamiliar place, cars could be covering up road markings, drivers could genuinely be lost. I've been guilty of it before and by the time I've noticed it's too late!

I'm in a minority but I think YANBU. Obviously people should let you in if you're in the wrong lane and it drives me mad when idiots pretend not to notice someone frantically signalling to be let in.

But it is stupid and dangerous to stop on a green light just because you want to be in the other lane.

Report
EuroShagmore · 09/11/2012 14:02

YABU. Just let them in (if you can). At unfamiliar junctions with queues of traffic, it's impossible to read the arrow lane markings. You can make a guess as to the correct lane, but it's not always going to be right. Unless they are doing it to queue jump, in which case they can f* right off.

Fakebook · 09/11/2012 14:02

YABU. You can't stay in a wrong lane; what if it leads on to the motorway?! Drivers should be courteous to other drivers and give way.

You can be horrible to cyclists though, because they're rude, entitled road users.

mutny · 09/11/2012 14:02

Yabu, surely driving as a whole would be better if propel helped each other out.

When I see this I don't get annoyed at the one blocking the lane but the bunch of twats refusing to let them in.

Report
maddening · 09/11/2012 14:03

Depends whether they can turn around further on - some city one way systems are a nightmare.

I think more overhead signage - like on motorways which have a sign above stating which lane does what would help.

YABU. Ive sometimes got in the wrong lane because I don't know the area I'm driving in. Some road markings are very confusing. Thank goodness everyone doesn't have your attitude.

Seriously sometimes road signs and road markings are really crap
Yabu, there's enough unreasonable road rage out there. Have a bit if patience

YABU.

Ive done it on non familiar roads, it's scary to discover you're in the wrong lane. Happens to us all. Let them out, it's no skin off your nose.

It depends. If someone is in the wrong lane and desperately indicating to move into the correct one and no one will let him in then it is those drivers who abu.

If someone though is in a situation where they realise they're in a green arrow lane, there's no option of pushing into the next lane because their light is still red and there's a queue of cars behind them they should just turn and then do a u turn whenever possible.

Report
Procrasstinator · 09/11/2012 14:34

Completely disagree with you and agree with everyone else. It's no hardship to give way to someone if they have clearly made a mistake and need to change lane

Report
Flojo1979 · 09/11/2012 14:34

Sorry I wasnt the one not letting them back in, I was the one stuck behind, and those lights take ages to go green again! If I was in the wrong lane, I'd try and swap, but if I couldn't I'd keep moving til I could safely pull up and turn round, not hold everyone up!
Besides, I'm convinced this guy was just trying to jump the que anyway, as I was in the turn right lane and he had bypassed about a dozen cars.
