I went into a charity shop today. Small shop, but well known charity. there was a youngish female manager and her two assistants.

One of the assistants was a young woman in her early 20s and the other was a man of about 40 who had learning difficulties. He was very chatty, talking to the maanager and the other assistant and then she said "Oh X will you ZIP it and go and sit in the back for a while!"

In a cod jokey manner...she was making out that it was light hearted because she saw me look and then she laughed a false laugh.

He went and then she said "I'm not being funny but he goes on and on and he stinks too...it's ok...he's got no idea what's going on most of the time!"

sad

He was obviously unaware that he was talking too much and if he DOES smell then she needs to tell whoever is in charge of looking after his placement.

I phoned up their head office when I got home and told them. And I am putting it in writing too.

I just think, that if she wants to work in a shop where the staff come from all walks of life, then she needs to get better skills at dealing with them.

YANBU. Was it the manager who said this though? shock

MrsCantSayAnything Thu 08-Nov-12 14:31:52

I assumed she was because she had been telling the other girl how to do something till related when I came in.

Paiviaso Thu 08-Nov-12 14:32:50

Was this the manager or the assistant?

MrsCantSayAnything Thu 08-Nov-12 14:34:50

The manager Paivaso the manager who told him to go in the back...and I thought she must be the manager as she was telling the girl how to use some feature on the till. And she was a bit older than the other girl. Not that that means anything but you know...she had a proprietorial air.

My only hesitation would be that if it was another assistant she could have been on a placement herself, so wouldn't necessarily have been being mean, just that she lacked the awareness herself that what she was saying was wrong. The manager would be salaried etc so it's much more serious, if she was the manager. Both are bad situations, but if it was the manager it's worse, iyswim.

How many times can I write manager in a post? I think I'll just go back to YANBU.

At least he didn't hear the stinky remark. What a nasty woman. Yep, I wd call the head office.

MrsCantSayAnything Thu 08-Nov-12 14:39:35

She was very different in looks to the other female so they will know who it is.

I described her and they are looking into it. She had long dark hair and was small and ugly inside, the other girl was quite tall and blonde.

I hope he doesn't sense her nastiness.

Vile: YANBU

InNeedOfBrandy Thu 08-Nov-12 14:42:42

YANBU how sad

MrsCantSayAnything Thu 08-Nov-12 14:46:34

Its just made me think...people go into the community to do voluntary work to enrich their lives and then arseholes like her are there spoiling it for them I hope she gets sacked tbh.

butisthismyname Thu 08-Nov-12 14:49:40

Yes, definitley flag it up. If she is in charge she should be aware of how to treat volunteers with difficulties - in fact all volunteers, if she sin't then she needs to be bloody well taught. Makes me mad - one of my roles is tohelp manage the integration of people with extra needs into volunteering and we spend hours helping organisations to deal with issues. Stupid cow . grrrr.

vjg13 Thu 08-Nov-12 14:54:40

YANBU, I have a teenager with learning difficulties and this type of situation is something I worry about. Thank you for complaining.

CelstialNavigation Thu 08-Nov-12 15:22:45

YANBU. I am glad you are complaining.

GoEasyPudding Thu 08-Nov-12 15:26:16

Good on you, I say.

MrsClown1 Thu 08-Nov-12 15:27:09

YANBU - aside from that I am speechless.

KenLeeeeeee Thu 08-Nov-12 15:30:01

YANBU and thank you for standing up for this guy & not just walking away fuming quietly.

butisthismyname Thu 08-Nov-12 15:31:04

Can you let us know what happened - it's handy for me in my job apart from anything else! Thanks

mignonette Thu 08-Nov-12 15:32:05

Good for you OP. That is an unprofessional way to speak to anybody, LD or not.

MrsCantSayAnything Thu 08-Nov-12 15:46:55

Yes I will report back as soon as I hear back! I really hope she gets her come uppance.

Report, report, report. How disgusting.
