I live in Yorkshire and love my accent. Although certain words have still carry my northern Ireland twang, apparently.

I wish I had a proper regional accent - I sound bland and generic, because I'm a foreign national. I don't actually have a Dutch accent at all, I just sound boring. Perhaps I should move up north - when I first lived in the UK in the late 70s and learned English, I came back with a seriously northern accent - but it wore off sad.

I am from Yorkshire but have lived darn sarth for 25 years.
Always asked where I'm from.
My dcs say barth and carstle. Poncy southerners.

Northern and proud.

I pronounce words correctly - eg I don't drop my t's - and always tell DD to be proud of where she comes from and her accent BUT she must always pronounce her words clearly.

She has a habit of being lazy with her speech because "I'm from xxxx and that's how the kids speak round here" I always reply "I've lived here 25 years longer than you and yet I don't talk like a wannabe gangsta! Speak properly!"

Me too. There's no arse in grass!

I'm from london, dp is mancunian. He thinks that having a northern accent has made it harder to him to get a job in london. (he's really really mancunian, even though he's been to uni, which would usually soften it, being around different accents for years). I agree with him tbh!
