dh just told me to buy myself a couple of the ornaments i like on his card because hes been a twat grumpy just lately

aibu to tell him i'd rather he just stopped being a twat grumpy

tell him that you appreciate the gesture, and that you WILL buy those ornaments, but point out that you would rather have your (cheerful) old dh back again. perhaps you could explore WHY he's been grumpy recently?
(but DO buy the ornaments!!)

I think this would really really bug me. It's along the lines of 'don't worry your little head over it, buy yourself something pretty to get over it'.

I'd be bloody tempted to buy a whole new wardrobe of clothes. Or the tackiest fibre-optic cheesy musical ornament and stick it on his side of the bed.
