To want to name and shame this particular supermarket?

Went to do the shopping today. Bought some cheese with a special offer 'Buy 1 get 2 free'. So I took 3 of them.
Went to pay and realized that I had still paid for 3 cheeses.

Asked customer services who found:

• that the offer had expired the day before
  
• that the new 'price' for the cheese was different (and lower) than the one advertised on the offer.
  

Which annoyed me to say the least because:
1- there must have been quite a few people this morning who bought that cheese thinking there was a special offer on and they didn't benefit from it.
2- They had actually inflated the individual price just for the offer just to put back down once the offer was finished (so it has never been a 'real' buy one get 2 free).

So Shall name and shame this big supermarket?

That is so annoying. Was it a smaller store without a dedicated team dealingwith price changes and labelling?

I used to work in the one that starts with a S - and if aprice was incorrect then they would honour it (to the customer's benefit) as it was their mistake in not changing the labels. Goodwill - I have read recently that it isn't a legal obligation.

And cheese is feckin' expensive at the moment

I have no problem with the staff tbh. They were lovely. They did refund me 'as if the prices were the original ones', not the new ones so I can't fault them there.

It's just the way it's done that annoyed me. I know this is actually quite common place. Prices going up for a week before having a 'special offer' on etc...
But it was so obvious today that it made me .

And you are right, cheese is expensive now. I got nearly £10 back (on a £50 shop...).
I am thinking about all the people that ended up spending more money they originally planned.

I don't put the blame on someone. I put the blame on the corporation and their dubious marketing methods.

I also work in a factory doing 'quality management' I am very aware of 'human error'. And that's why you need system in place and it's the corporation responsibility to do so (You wouldn't want someone to 'forget' something when they build your car would you?)

Probably a mistake, they rectified the problem and more than likely corrected the mistake on the shelf. Can't see the issue to be honest.

I have seen them doing that again and again. I am sick of promotions that aren't real promotion. that's just a lie!

I pointed it out to a nearby 'suit' who was sauntering by. He laughed and said there was nothing he could do as it was 'in the system that way' and would stay like it for a week

I wanted 2 packets so payed more than the normal price would be without the 'special offer'. How bloody silly.

Like you'll see something with a big sign saying 59p, think oooo thats a bargain. Then in small letters it says OFF. So 59p off £16.97... or whatever.

YABU It was actually the branch's fault for not being up to the mark removing the special offer flash at the end of trading yesterday. The shelf-talkers have an expiry date but there are so many that sometimes one gets left up by mistake. It's not a deliberate marketing scam and at least they acted correctly by refunding your money as if the offer still stood. They'll have taken down the ticket afterwards.

I don't have an issue with the way they were with me (I thought that much was clear).
BUT I have a big issue with the way they behaved towards all their customers.

Agree cogito but what about the inflated price? Is that a 'branch decision' too. A mistake on their part? Or just 'normal' marketing ploy?

They have been pulled up on that again and again but still carry on doing it.

I don't know the unit price of the cheese but, if you noticed it, I'm guessing the difference must have been substantial. If others didn't notice the mistake they can't have looked at their receipt very closely. Supermarkets are staffed by people and people make mistakes....

Food prices change. Especially something like cheese where it's a natural product subject to shortages and surpluses. If it's been ticking along at £5 a lump and the price is going to go down to £4 a lump, why not make the transition a special offer?

I hate this sort of thing too. packs of Huggies wipes are ALWAYS sold at £1. Everywhere.

Until they go onto Boy One Get Two Free when they revert to £2.59 per pack.

I know if I bought three Im still getting them at less than a pound each but I refuse to buy them on this offer out of principle.

Tesco (and all major supermarkets) are well know for quoting a high price when doing offers. They will sell a product for the higher price for a small amount of time so they can use that price as a promotion. I saw it recently with chocolate fingers. They where buy one get one free at £1.99 a pack and a few weeks later where £1 each.

What is it with that supermarket and cheese? I bought a BOGOF and it didnt go through, so the refunded me double the diiference- nearly £10!

this happened to me on many occasions at tesco and i asked a friend why it happens ( she is a tesco manager). she said it often happen on a wednesday as this is the day they change the instore offers and sometimes labels are missed
