He likes having only one very dim lamp on and the TV....I can't see the point in this.

I can't frigging see!

I have two or three lamps on myself.

I have agreed to having the lighting how he wants it because he's been working late and I've been here most of the evening.

But really. AIBU to think if you want a dark room, go to the cinema or to bed!!

I hate dark rooms, I don't like the main light on though, lamps lamps and more lamps.

I like the main lamp if I am crafting something....AND lamps.

Time enough for the dark when you're dead imo.

Fuck, yes. DH has no sense of a happy medium at all. It's either all the ceiling lights on, or every last lamp off while he watches some shite. YANBU.

When I was a teenager I used to have a friend whose dad wouldn't allow the telly and the light to be on at the same time as it cost money- they had to choose which one they wanted Grin

I hate having the main lights on in our living room.

When my parents come here they always turn the bloody lights on because they can't see anything Grin

In fairness we do have it quite dim, but I like it because it is soothing and hides most of the stains on the carpet

Maybe he is trying to create a romantic ambience?

I love having just a lamp and TV on - gives a cosier ambiance, dontchaknow.

Dry no. He's trying to watch True Blood. Hmm Bloody vampires.

I don't want cosy! Bed is for cosy. When you're awake you need to be DOING!

I love my living room cosy, I have a thing for lamps and throws and cushions, but sitting with just the telly on is not cosy. (unless its 1D on ey mrscantsay Wink gets a bit steamy then)

YANBU! I could have written your post. And to make it worse, we are only allowed to have the lowest wattage possible. I'm talking cave-like existence here.

I get headaches if I watch tv without a light on, and I love ambient light anyway, so there are always lots of lamps on in our house.. its a pain in the arse going round to turn them off at bedtime though!

My husband will happily sit and watch tv in the dark, I refuse to.

Oh and we aren't allowed to have the blind on the front window open either, as 'folk can see in'. Wtf.

I love having low light in the evening- it's cosy. Ideally with a nice fire flickering away. 'Doing' is for daytime.

I don't mind ambient lighting. But LIGHTING is the operative word here. ONE lamp with a low wattage is NOT lighting.

I love sitting in a darkened room, even better if it's lit only by candlelight. I find having lots of lights on all the time really draining.

We finally managed a compromise on this one. All lights are off when we're watching tv, with the exception of my lamp (an angled one from ikea that's directed at my seat). I have enough light to knit by, he's in the dark-ish. If we're watching a movie together I turn my lamp off.

I have all the lights on when I watch TV I get a headache in half light. I think I'm going blind when it's TV in the dark. I'm restless too and tend to do other things while I watch so darkness is awful for me. It feel like I'm in trouble for something and sitting in time out, no talking (cause they are watching a show) and no lights (so I can't do anything else,) It's like "sit still and shut up"! Torture!

Imagine having fluorescent lighting. That's my choice. Darkness or strip lights. Admittedly they have a cover on them with a texture, but four of them in our living room?

Can't stand a brightly lit room when watching telly.

OP if you have been there most of the evening why didn't you do what you needed before he came home if you knew that would be how he wanted it. Plus there must be other rooms in your house for you to get on with whatever you want?

Hubby likes to watch the telly in the dark, too. He says it feels more like a cinema that way, and that any stray light is distracting.

Report
MrsCantSayAnything · 06/11/2012 07:38

I can't see how people are so easily distracted!! Sparkley He doesn''t ALWAYS watch tv...I'm not psychic. Anyway...this room is the only comfortable one.
