To think that Galt are insulting my daughter?

And yours.

This from their marketing email:

Perfect Pamper Kits for your Little Lady this Christmas

Girls of all ages like to be pampered! Now?s the time to buy your little Lady the perfect Christmas gift so she can chill out before lunch on 25th December! There are jewellery sets, nail art packs and the opportunity to make your own perfume, lip-gloss or nail varnish. And, if that?s not enough relax and experiment with different fragrances in the bath with Spa Science where you can blend natural ingredients to make face masks, body scrubs, bath fizzers and foaming spa baths. It's real chemistry!

Further on, a box reads:

Gift Ideas
For Girls From everything pink, to things that make them think!
For Boys Visit Science & Discovery to create and learn with things that make them squirm!

Oh dear, Galt, I remember your brand fondly from childhood but with this nonsense you have pissed me off.

If it bothers you too, do tell Galt why.

You are about to be told you're overthinking this and no one ever stops girls playing with boys toys. But no, irritates the hell out of me too.

Grin

But I'm not overthinking it. All the thinking is being done for me. And it's clear that DD should only think a little bit and then get back to making herself look pwetty.

YANBU.
I thought Galt was a quality brand too, so I am surprised that they resort to
lazy sexist marketing and products.

But some girls are like this. DD1 is, DDs 2&3 aren't. I don't see the issue really. Advertising has to be aimed at someone, somewhere. Why get insulted by it?

DS1 would love to make his own lipgloss. Do Galt cater for boys like him or does he have to play with worms?

Report
SomethingOnce · 05/11/2012 13:30

Nope, it's worms for you, sonny boy.

My DDs, especially DD1 would be rather Hmm if they read that. I'd hearing about it for days. It annoys me too, but not enough to raise my blood pressure.

Indeed, why get insulted? Really, why think at all - unless someone is 'making' you do it as a (brief) alternative to 'everything pink'.

I think you should just gaze at the lipstick counter at Boots for a few hours to lower your blood pressure, OP.

YANBU. That is fucking shit tbh.

I was flicking through the Avin book this morning and noticed that they do mini tiddliwinks sets. I thought it would make an ideal stocking filler for DS until I looked closer and saw that they do a football themed one for boys and a pink castle themed one for girls. Even tiddliwinks, the most gender-neutral of all the games has been genderised by frigging Avon! Why?! Why did they have to do that?! Confused

Halfords have started doing pink screenwash especially for the Laydeez

Dreams about pink screenwash

Great advice, LRD, I feel better just thinking about it - it's my happy place Grin

Anyway surely you don't want your dd to grow up to be a scientist? Think of those unflattering white coats. Ewwww no.

Grin they did not bring out pink screenwash for "girls".. the properties are different to the content of the blue screenwash...

LRDtheFeministDragon · 05/11/2012 14:12

What do pink and blue screenwashes do, please? I use 'rain' or occasionally 'bucket of water' most of the time, I hate the smell of the bubbly stuff and it always seems to seep into the car somehow.

Report
SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 05/11/2012 14:14

I love the smell :)

DH told me that pink screen wash was for girls and blue was for boys! And I believed him Blush.

Dunno what screen wash does, DH buys gallons of the stuff though.

I had loads of Galt Make&Do stuff as a child, and I'm pretty sure it was all gender neuteral. Shame they've changed that tune Sad. Especially when other shops and brands are going in the other direction.

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 05/11/2012 15:08

Which other shops and brands? Not elc, famous for its pink aisle and blue aisle. Not Tesco, whose Christmas catalogue talks abut girls toys and boys toys

Not M&S, with their "Boys' Stuff" brand.

I think it was Harrods recently in the news. Not that I shop there. They grouped toys by interest and age instead.

ELC do my head in, sent me their christmas brochure and I practically sicked up all over the gaudy pink page while my LB pointed and oohed and aahed at it all. Think he may get a pram for his birthday in Feb Grin
