AIBU?

To think if you are going to be photographed without makeup for charidee its a bit ahem "disingenuous" to then get your picture airbrushed to absolute fuckery.

See here.

Great idea but do they really expect us to believe that all these women have the exact same paper white complexion?

Look at Louise Redknapp. She has got the teeniest tiniest palest dark white freckles. Except you don't get dark white freckles. Freckles are brown.

Confused

It's a bloody bizarre idea. Why would anyone care about a bunch of women with no makeup on? If they wanted to see that they should come along to my toddler group every week. Surely women can do something more worthwhile than clean their faces???

It would work as an empowering women thing if they at least had an under eye bag, those photos so the opposite.

Looks like they shone a really really bright light on them. That does make you look different.

I saw some crappy thing on yahoo the other week where they were showing pictures of famous women with no makeup on Hmm

Except they clearly had make up on [boggle]

weird thing to put on yahoo anyway. Hold the presses. Woman Without Makeup.

But I digress.

It's the bright light Grin

It's a joke isn't it? They've all got pale lippy on as well.

Actually you're right Lee, they do have lipstick on. It looks to me like they have mascara on too. What's the fucking point of this ridiculous stunt?

Report
HecatePhosphorus · 05/11/2012 08:12

Oh, and there's no WAY they don't have lipstick on. And if that last one is not wearing mascara, I'm a monkey's uncle!

This is a stupid stunt. Yes, they absolutely do have makeup on- it is bloody obvious, but also... what kind of shit is this? I agree with Cailin surely women can do something more valuable than clean their faces - and have more worth that what they look like.

It is a total joke.

Goodness. I am surprised they didn't ask me to join in - that's exactly what I look like first thing in the morning.

I also find when I'm not wearing makeup, I naturally twist my shoulder up to my lip in a winsome (but slightly achy) way and pout. It's just the way I'm made.

Louise has Vaseline or similar product on her eyes- it separates the eyelashes, gives a 'starry-eyed look and gives the lids a soft sheen under the studio lights. Old make up artists trick and they do that for baby models too; my DS was one, on the cover of Mother&Baby magazine and he had Vaseline put on his long eyelashes to further define them.

So I go to work with slightly less, but professionally applied make-up, people give me money and that gives power and control back to all women?

Do I have that right?

If I go out without my make up on I hang my head in shame and drape my hair so no one can catch a glimpse of me. I wouldn't want anyone to suffer my shameful bareface.
As for the 'Bearface fundraiser' WTF

YANBU at all. Those photographs have been airbrushed beyond all recognition, so it's hardly "empowering women", is it?
I find it a bit Hmm anyway that they are making the assumption that ALL women wear makeup. It would be a bit weird of me to ask people to sponsor me to go "BearFaced" (vom) given that I don't actually own any makeup, let alone wear the stuff.

There are hundreds of other things women could be doing to raise money for Children in Need. And given the "celebrities" in that article, I suspect the promotion is more for their own profiles than it is for CiN.

Report
CailinDana · 05/11/2012 08:28

What annoys me most is the implicit assumption that all women wear makeup all the time and that going without is something unusual, something worth sponsoring. I don't ever wear makeup - does that make me some sort of freak who can't participate? I'm hardly going to ask people to sponsor me to do exactly the same thing as I always do, can I?
